I am having an issue with hooking up my Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player using the hdmi output into my 990.

I have a monoprice hdmi-dvi cable to connect the A2 to my 990. After about an hour or so of watching a dvd (either a hd or a regular dvd) the image on the TV cuts in and out. I will have an image for 5 seconds, then there is no image for a second or two, then it comes back for several seconds....etc.

So I hooked up a hdmi-dvi cable from blue jeans, and the same problem repeats itself.

If I hook up the player to the 990 via component cables, I do not experience the problem. But then i do not get to use the upconversion benefit of the A2.

It sounds to me there is either an issue of the hdmi output of the A2, or with the connection on the 990.

Anyone else experience a similiar problem.

I've used the HD-A2 with the 990 without problems, so I don't know that it's as simple as a problem with HDCP compliance between the two. It is possible that there's an HDCP problem between the HD-A2 and your display, which could be tested by connecting the player directly to the display. HDCP handshake woes can be hard to trouble-shoot, though. I had a lot of trouble with my HD-A2 using a MonoPrice switch between it and the 990 - it would only work if I turned the A2 on after getting everything else set up right, and if I changed inputs at any time I had to shut down the player and start over.

From time to time, i've got a similar issue. Never with my DVD player, but with my digital cable box.
For whatever reason my cable provider will do some form of update, sweep, or other voodoo to the system. they can't explain.
I know when it happens as it always causes the HD output to change format. When this happens i have a HDCP handshake/sync issue, but only through the 990.
I have owever discovered that accessing the box's guide or menu, a static image, seems to allow the handshake/sync to re-establish and my issues disappear.

HDCP on cable boxes is often squirrelly.
