I have read some post here about using the extra 2 amps (in a 5.1 config) of a 7125 (or others) to bi-amp the front mains. I was wondering about the input from the 990, do you split the left and right out of the 990 and feed the 6 and 7 amp from that?

I am rather new to the HT scene but am seriously looking into some outlaw gear. I have a couple of polk sda srs 1.2 speakers that I used for stereo and plan on using them for my mains. They are very easy to drive at 91db plus the 15 inch passive radiator ought to provide plenty of bass so I am not sure if I will need a sub woofer at this time.

I am looking at the carver LSIfx for rears and and LSIc for the center, both of these have an efficency of 88db. From reading about the 990 I see that you can adjust the ouputs to compensate for differenct speakers but was wanting to get some opinions on this setup.

I am considering the 7125 amp to drive the 4 ohm speakers and believe this will be plenty of power, mostly cause my wife always says "turn it down some" arg........

One more thing about stereo music. I have been using fairly high end carver equipment for the last several years and have always been pleased with the sound, I am getting rid of all my old stuff to accomodate the new stuff but was wondering if I will have any disappointments in the quality of stereo music from the 990 and the 7125. Granted, I know that there are better stereo stuff out there but just want to see how you all feel about quality of sound.

One more thing!....I am hearing there may be a new pre/pro coming out soon and I am unsure if I should just wait till it does,, although money is a consideration and the 990 is a good price now, if a new one comes out at 1500.00 I might kick myself in the but for not taking advantage of the price/value of a 990..

Cheers

Why are you getting rid of your old amps if they still work? Most audio gear is no better now than it was in the days of stereo only. Use it for your left and right mains.

Passive bi-amping does nothing but waste electricity.

My amp sales, pre-amp and tuner are what is funding my HT project. Mostly amps.

To bi-amp, you would split the output from the 990 to feed two channels, but I don't know if it'll be a benefit. For a 91dB efficient, 4-ohm speaker, the 7125's 190W/channel should be plenty without bi-amping.

As for the 990's sound with two-channel music duty, I'd classify it as quite good.

Well, Altec, I dont have a amp with 5 or 7 channels, I have 2 mono amps. So regardless, I have to buy more amp for the center and surrounds, I could buy 3 2200's as I will probably not be doing full 7 channel but prefer a single amp.

gonk, thanks. That supports what I thought and have been reading. Any thoughts on my Polk LSI speaker choices........do you know of some a little more efficent and mayhbe even better sounding for around the same costs? I prefer to stay with 4 ohms.
