I just tried hooking up my Nintendo Wii to my 990. I want to run the video using component cables, and audio will be standard L/R phono cables.

I have the component cables running to the "Video 2" comp in on the back of the 990, and I ran the 2 audio plugs to the L & R audio in for "video 2" on the back of the 990.

I have video, but I am not getting any sound.

I suppose it is possible the plugs/cord is bad, but I doubt it. I am guessing somewhere in the menu I need to coordinate the audio input. But I cannot figure it out, either by trial and error in the menu, or from the manual.

Any help?

Make sure that the setup menu has Video2's audio set to "analog" - if may be defaulted to a digital input.

Yup, already tried that.

I thought maybe there would be more selections other than just "analog" in the set up, but there is not.

Anything else I can try?

I ran the L+R audio from my Wii to the Tape input and changed the name on the 990's screen.

I'm running exactly the same thing with my Wii.
Make sure that you have the right cables plugged into the right plugs. Video 2 In is the middle set in the set of 7 audio output and input terminals.

Setting the audio to analog for the video2 input selects the analog input labeled Video 2 In.

You could try the audio in the aux or tape input to see if you hear anything.

I get video, so I have to have the correct cables going to video and audio.

Maybe I did not get the video 2 set to analog. I will try more troubleshooting.

I still cannot get audio, bummer. There must be something really simple I am missing.

How does the 990 recognize I am using component video 2 but to look for analog audio for video 2?

Any other suggestions?

I'll run through the process from the top, just in case anything catches your eye...

Before we start, I'll point out that if you are using component video, it can be assigned to any video input, so there is still the possibility that the analog audio is going someplace different.

First, verify that the stereo analog cables are connected to Video2 on the rear panel (that's near the very center of this huge picture , just to the left of "Video 2 In"). Also confirm which component input you have connected the Wii to (it sounds like you're successfully using "Vid2", the left-most component input, located at the top left corner of the rear panel).

Once that's done and all is in order, go to the 990's setup menu. In the "INPUT CONFIG" screen, the Video2 input is the third choice from the top. The name can be edited, in which case the third choice in this menu will show that revised name instead of Video2. Go to that choice and press SELECT to enter that sub-menu. Once you are there, the AUDIO setting should be ANALOG (which tells it you use the analog input associated with Video2 - the only analog connection that this input can use). The VIDEO setting should be COMPONENT2. (Note that you can also select COMPONENT1 and COMPONENT-DVD here, as the three component inputs are not locked into a single input.)

Gonk you are the man and now my sons hero. I had my Xbox on video 2 and optical. I didnt know that the inputs were in an order when it comes to analog. That is interesting must be why you cant pick analog 1,2,x.

Anyway CP1966 if you follow Gonks instructions it will work. My config is as follows:

Input #3
Audio: analog
Video: Comp 1

Works like the 480 low res dream that the Wii is.
