I'm new to the Saloon, but have owned & enjoyed the 950 for 3+ yrs. We're redoing our media room now, and it's time for an upgrade, so I've been looking at the 990. I'm more of an audio nut than video, so pardon my ignorance about the questions on the cable format. I'll be using a Blu-ray DVD player, and we have HD via satellite. The new TV is a Pioneer PDP-6010PD, which is one of the new Kuro sets. (If you haven't seen these, the picture is amazing, especially with Blu-ray, and is almost 3 dimensional in quality.)
The question: Will I be loosing any video quality going from the Blu-ray & satellite HDMI outputs to the 990 DVI input, and then again to the TV's HDMI input? And what are all the different HDMI specs...I think the current is 1.3...do I need to be concerned about these details? Concerning the 990, I'm assuming the specific DVI connection is a DVI-D (as opposed to DVI-I or DVI-A) connection, is this correct?
Thanks a bunch to whoever has the knowledge & takes the time to respond!!

There is no issue with video performance going from HDMI to DVI to HDMI - the video data is identical throughout the signal path, with no conversion applied. Don't worry about the HDMI versions for this, as the 990 doesn't support HDMI audio anyway. Also, you are correct that the 990's DVI switching is DVI-D.

If you are interested in more about HDMI, there's a link in my sig that may interest you - my HDMI FAQ.

gonk,

Thanks so much for the quick reply. Your HDMI FAQ link was very helpful also. I wouldn't have needed to ask the question if I had seen your link first! Thanks again!

Glad to help, Roger. I've been using the 990's DVI switching with an assortment of sources (some DVI but most HDMI, and including both Blu-ray and HD cable) and a DVI-equipped HDTV for a few years now. It's worked well for me.
