When finally firing up the 990 last night and performing auto setup, the 990 displayed the "Due to small front speaker and large surround speaker after turning power off, interchange front & surround speaker and then retry."

I checked the forum and quickly knew to set the crossovers to 80 Hz from the default 100Hz.

Auto setup then went though its paces again & I saved the configuration. I have a couple of questions regarding the speakers & what I am seeing on the different 990 menu screens as follows:

The LCR manual recommends an 80 HZ crossover, so I'm keeping the crossover at 80.

I have Axiom QS8 surround speakers. I didn't find a recommended crossover for these speakers, but found the following spec information: Freq Resp +/-3db (Hz): 95 - 22 kHz
Freq Resp +3dB- 9dB (Hz): 65 - 22 kHz
Does this mean I need to set the QS8's crossover back to 100Kz (or 95 if possible)?

The results of the Auto Setup showed the distance to speakers at the right distances, except for the subwoofer, which was shown another 8 ft. further back than it was actually placed. I think Gonk mentioned that this would occur & not to worry about it, so I'm leaving this as is.

The Channel Calibration screen is what I'm not sure about. I was expecting the auto setup to fill in some db values on this screen. The following was seen:
Front left: 0 db
Center: --- db
Front Right: 0 db
Surround right: --- db
Back right: --- db (no speaker actually at this position)
Back left: --- db (no speaker actually at this position)
Surround left: --- db
Subwoofer: 0 db

Is the above indicating that the auto setup didn't complete what it was doing?

Questions regarding the Surround Configuration screen. What do the below values do, or, what should they be set to:

Center width: step 0
Dimension: 0
HP Mode: DH1
2 ch. sub offset: 0 db

Thanks for the help!

Oy

My personal experience with 990's auto setup was less than stellar. It was, most probably, confused by room reflections, which are very bad in my case, and the distance 990 came up with(for the channel closest to the wall) was rather the one to the wall than to the speaker.

I'd recomment that you set the crossover back to 100 Hz for your surrounds and perform the auto setup again. If the distance to your sub is messed up, input the real one.

Auto setup is, in my view, only a convenience. Nothing beats a tape measure when adjusting the speaker delay.

I'd use 80Hz for the LCR's and 100Hz for the Axioms (maybe even 120Hz), but try using 80Hz or even 60Hz for all of them for the sake of auto-setup then set back to 80Hz & 100Hz afterward. Having the crossovers too high has been a problem for auto-setup. ALso, I'll bring in my SPL meter tomorrow and you can try a manual calibration if you want to.

Setting all speakers to 60HZ did add a 0 db to the center channel, -2db to the surround right channel, & -1db to the surround left channel.

Speaker distances stayed the same.

Does auto setup have anything to do with the Surround Configuration screen?

Yes, I would like to borrow your SPL meter for verification. Thanks.

Sounds like all is in order.

It's in my briefcase. I'll be a little late in the morning.

I used an spl meter and I really enjoy the sound and configuration a lot better. I used -10db setting on the master control of the 990.
However I went to used the auto setup at 0 setting on the 990 afterwards to compare notes and it would not calibration.
I have my speakers set to small and the sub set to yes. The crossovers are set to 40hz for the mains and center and 80hz for the rears.
What can I do so that I can use the auto calibration to do a comparison?

Frank

What error did you run into when running the auto setup? The possible suggestions for getting auto-setup to work would be to lower the crossover point for the rears and to make sure the microphone is at ear-level during calibration.

The error was that the AUTO calibration would not work.
I did have the mic set up.

Thanks

When you say "would not work" - did it give you any specific error message?

It did not give any message reading error.
This weekend I am going to give it another try and see what results I have.
