I just received my new B-stock 990. It powers up and then ceases to function. That is, I can't get sound or video The menu will not appear on my display, so I can't begin to configure the system. The remote will not depower the unit. The FM produces no sound. The ocr/svr switch is set to ocr. I have done system reset. HELP

Try pushing "TNR" on the remote. That button activates the 990 functions.

Glad to help. Have fun setting up your 990; it really is a wonderful pre/pro.

Actually it's on page 34:
Power To turn the Model 990 on: 1. Press the MAIN POWER button on the unit’s rear panel. The Standby/On indicator on the front panel will glow yellow. 2. Press the STANDBY button on the front panel, or any source button (such as DVD, VIDEO 1, or CD) on the remote control. The Standby/On indicator will turn blue, and the front-panel display will illuminate.

Page 34? I could be wrong, but that sounds like what in journalistic circles we call, "burying the lede."

What if I said it was also on page 10 (the first page to mention the 990's remote)? Device control selector buttons (see pages 41-42) These buttons select the device that the remote will control. Push the TNR button to control the Model 990. The 990 comes with a universal remote, and as with any universal remote you have to make sure it is set to control the correct device in order to get anywhere. No surround processor manual is perfect, and they are all inherently complex devices, but I'd say Outlaw did a pretty reasonable job of documenting it - and better than a lot of other manufacturers do.

I personally appreciate the retro-logic that went into the operation of my 990, it's been a piece of cake right from the start, like remembering how to ride a bike. --- Mike
