Hi guys. Nice to see this board is alive and active. Been away for sometime a little background first. I recently purchased a sony hdtv kds60a3000 to go with my ps3 for christmas. Im trying to hook it up with hdmi-dvi cables from blue jeans cable.

I have hdmi from sony hdtv to dvi out on 990. I have another hdmi from sony ps3 to dvi1 in on 990. After resetting the ps3 and tv and 990 a couple times (unplugging the ps3 and tv for hdmi handshake issues too) I was able to get video output up to 720p then 1080i but not 1080p.

It took a couple trys just to get 720p and 1080i to repsond, it was stuck in 480p and 4:3 mode. I know the tv can accept 1080p but I'm getting frustrated turning equipment on and off and unplugging electronics.

I've adjusted settings in the tv and on the 990 (triple checked) but still no 1080p. Could it be the cables? I'm thinking of returning the 2 hdmi-dvi cables and buying an hdmi-hdmi cable and hooking the hdtv to the ps3 with that cable and using optical from ps3 to 990 for audio for games and blu-ray on the sound system? Is that possible guys? Any responses greatly appreciated!!

Also wanted to add that I checked settings on the PS3, the tv and the 990 but still can't get 1080p to respond when I do the video output test. 720p and 1080i took alot of attempts to respond but nothing with 1080p...

I have my PS3 (and my Directv DVR) connected to the 990 with Blue Jeans 5 foot Series F hdmi to dvi cables. I had the 990 connected to the projector with a 30 ft Series 1 hdmi to hdmi cable with an adapter at the 990 until I bent the cable too far and ruined the end ($122 mistake!). It's now connected with a Dayton cable from Parts Express. I haven't had any issues with either of these combinations passing 1080p.

I'm not sure what "video output test" you're doing. If that's a PS3 funtion, I haven't found it on mine. Have you tried playing a Blu-Ray disk and see if you get 1080p?

Good luck.

Rick

When you select video output settings on the ps3 display options, if you press square the ps3 will test the display for the video output. I tried a blu ray movie but only 1080i would appear.

I tried hooking up component cables and I was able to get all video outputs including 1080p but 1080p isn't available thru components from what I heard.

Can I connect the ps3 and the tv via a hdmi-hdmi cable for video only and then use an optical cable from the ps3 to the 990 for surround audio?

I didn't know about the PS3 video test but my projector has a place in the menus that shows the current input. I've looked at it to verify I was gettting 1080p/24 from BD's (it shows 1080i or 720p when I check the Directv output).

I have my PS3 connected to the 990 via optical for sound. You'll have to use something because you can't get sound from the hdmi to the 990. If I only had one hdmi device, I'd connect it straight to the tv.

Keep us informed of what you find.

Update: I unattached and reattached the hdmi-dvi cables from the tv hdmi1 to the 990 dvi out and the other hdmi-dvi cable from the ps3 to the 990 dvi2.

Settings for video 2 in 990 are video dvi2 and audio optical 3. I did the test display in the ps3 again and got 720p and 1080i fine but 1080p displayed a screen full of gray pixels like when the cable goes out then alternates blinking screens with a screen with pink vertical lines and a black screen. Last time I only saw a black screen when it tested for 1080p.

Anyone have any recommendations? Im thinking of just returning the two cables and getting an hdmi-hdmi cable since I only have one hdmi device.

Since all indications are that the KDS60A3000 will accept a 1080p signal (I did a little google double-check), I'd agree with the idea of trying an HDMI connection directly to the TV to make sure that works. How long are the runs of HDMI-DVI cables being used?

I don't think it's related but, my Directv receiver will not come on unless the projector is on and the 990 is set to that input. You can push the power button on the remote or the power button on the receiver and nothing happens - just like its unplugged - switch it on last and it works fine. You can change the 990 input after its on and it doesn't seem to care - just on start-up.

That is likely related to HDCP handshaking - the box needs to see a display and get the handshake negotiated, which means you need to have the projector and 990 both set to the correct inputs.

This may not be of much help, but I have a Sony 50A2000 and just recently hooked up an HDMI equipped Xbox 360 HDMI-HDMI direct to the TV and 1080P is going through (verified by the TV displaying the incoming signal). Previously I was using a non-hdmi 360 hooked up 720P component through the 990.

I believe the A2000 is quite similar to the A3000.

I'd recommend, like some of the posters above, that you connect directly to the TV. You can still run Optical to the 990.

Has anyone confirmed that 1080P can go through the 990 no problem?

I will be hooking up a PS3 soon...will report back the results.

Cheers.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice, I returned the two hdmi-dvi cables and am waiting for the hdmi-hdmi cable to arrive in the mail from blue jeans. The cable lengths I was running were 8ft and 5ft, the connections to the tv are on the left side and my components are on the right. The new cable I purchased is 8ft.

I will give an update when my cable arrives sometime early this week.

Just a quick update.

I hooked up the PS3 (HDMI-DVI) through the 990 to my Sony 50A2000 (SXRD) last night and briefly watched the Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds Blu Ray.

At first, I checked off all of the video resolutions in the PS3 setup and set it to automatically adjust the output resolution. This resulted in the DVD playing at 1080i. Then I deselected everything except 1080p, which, as expected, resulted in 1080p output.

Not sure why this happened - perhaps the native format of the show was 1080i?? I'm not really sure and didn't have too much time to play with it - set it up at 1AM.

I'll report back if I find anything meaningful. But 1080P shouldn't have been a problem for your situation, I don't believe...

Since HDMI is 'supposed' to configure itself with what the end device says it can support, it looks like your TV does not report its specs properly. Or, the PS3 does not negotiate with your TV properly(doesn't check if device is 1080P capable). As far as I know, all BluRay Discs are native 1080P.

Not all. A few BDs are 1080i native, but it is a pretty small number. A couple of concerts shot on video, I believe.
