Afternoon boys,
I am looking for a code for my Oppo 971 that will work for my remote. I just got my 990 a couple of weeks ago and am trying to get everything on one remote. I did a search and found some codes for other Oppos but not for the 971. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I LOVE my new 990 quite a bit more than my 970

As far as I know, there are no codes in the 990's remote that will control the 971H. There are a couple UEI codes that have reportedly worked with the 971H and other UEI remotes (maybe 0226?), but the codes apparently didn't get included in the Cat48's used with the 990's.

I would give one of the other Oppo codes a try. Many times the remote codes for different models by the same manufacturer are the same.

All of OPPO's remotes use the same basic code set - a code set that, as far as I've ever heard, the 990's remote doesn't contain.

Thanx guys, I tried the 3 different codes(including 0226 from above) with no success. For now I will have to live with using 2 remotes. I can't justify the price of a Harmony yet! LOL

The Outlaw remote is regular SW remote. It can be programmed to accept the Oppo codes.
I’m using it for couple years. What you need is: PC running the programming software with parallel port, interface cable and the Oppo codes.
I can provide all the above except the interface cable which you can buy or made you self. I have diagram.

Hey guys, I just hooked up my Oppo 971 to my Samsung LN-S3251. The picture looks great, but I can't program my Samsnung remote to work the Oppo. I've tried all the codes I can find but no luck so far. I've sent an email to Oppo and maybe they'll respond after new years but thought I'd take a chance on someone having a suggestion here.
Thanks!

OPPO may know something, but the truth is that very few remotes will provide support for smaller manufacturers like Outlaw and OPPO. This is one reason that OPPO has provided firmware updates for their newer players to add support for some generic DVD player codes so that remotes with even basic DVD player support can probably work. Unfortunately, I haven't seen an update to the 971H that covers this.

You are correct, kris - the Cat48 remote used by the 990 is a JP1 type remote. JP1 remotes can be modified with a computer quite extensively, although not everyone is up for the challenge. On the other hand, I doubt that jcb62's Samsung remote is a JP1.

But you can program Outlaw remote to operate whatever you want. I’m operating my Panasonic projector, Sony TV, Oppo, Denon, Cable box, Sat box, Amps, Light in the house etc. That the power of software programmable remote. It is very simple after you grasp the idea.

For anyone interested in this with the 990, 970, or 1070 remotes (or even the old 1050 remote, for that matter), it may be worth perusing a few sites:

Krisdz, you may have some other good links for stuff like this that would be good to throw out there. The biggest hurdle is to track down a cable. The last time I looked at JP1 much, most folks were still building their own cables. It looks like there are now some vendors selling good pre-made cables, even some USB cables.

Here is the cable link:
http://iresolved.com/JP1.htm
I’m using the RemoteMaster software to program it.
http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7992
I wrote the *.ir files for OPPO and the Panasonic AT900 projector.
The ir file is basically ready to load file which will add the code to the remote.
If some one is interested I’ll email them to you.

Here is the response I got back from OPPO. Not a big surprise.

Unfortunately we do not have any universal remote codes for our DVD products. Unless your remote control has learning functionality, or can be programmed using a PC, you will have to use the provided remote control. We are also unaware of any similar manufacturer codes which will work for our DVD units.

Some users have been able to use the remote code "1525" and "1224" for their remotes with success. This has not been confirmed by OPPO Digital, Inc.

I don't know if the remote that came with the Samsung is a "JP1" or not and don't know how to find out. I'm not up for trying to re-program it anyway. It takes a three digit code so I'm left with going through and trying them until I either find one that works or get tired of pressing numbers.

I have a Harmony 659 (now Logitech) in the main room and may get one for the bedroom if I get tired of having two remotes in there... or maybe I'll get a new model Harmony for the den and move the 659 to the bedroom.

Thanks for the responses to my question!!

I doubt that Samsung will have included OPPO codes in the TV's remote, but it's worth a try if you're up for it.

Does anybody know what remote codes will work with the 990 remote on Mitsubishi TVs, a Denon 2910 DVD Player, and a Nakamichi MB-8 CD Changer? I didn't even see any codes listed for Mitsubishi TVs, which I find extremely hard to believe as big a manufacturer as they are.

Also, I have a Denon MD recorder that the 990 remote will control, but not my Denon 2910 DVD player. Anybody have any suggestions?

Take a look at this site to see if any other possible codes catch your eye. For the Mitsubishi, you might try 0150, 0019, 0093, or 0178.
