Hi Everybody,
I知 wonder if somebody knows how the 990 is handling the 7.1 direct inputs?
According to manual the lip sync and delay could be adjusted. I guess it means that the 7.1 direct is converted to digital and then back to the analog. It means also the bass management is used on the 7.1.
Did anyone test the 7.1 towards the Stereo bypass mode? Is there sound degradation from the extra A/D to D/A conversion?
Regards
Kris

You are correct that the 7.1 Direct input is converted to digital and back to analog - unless all speakers are set to large, in which case it becomes an analog bypass.

When I first got the 990, I put it in the place of my old Model 950, which used a multichannel analog input that was an analog-only signal path. Using the same source with both processors, I could not hear any degradation with the 990 even with the A/D/A conversion. I wouldn't say that such is likely to be true for all cases - if you have a good enough analog source, you might start to run into some degradation.

To bad that the speakers size can稚 be set in the input menu for each source. In my case I知 using the 990 D/A for Dolby 5.1 EX DTS and digital upsample mode for the Stereo. But for the DVD-A and SACD I知 forced to use the 7.1. So if I want listen to DVD-A I have change the speaker size to full. My Denon 3910 sound much better when I use its internal D/A while listening to DVD-A. The 7.1 D/A/D is affecting little bit the sound dimension.
Same will be valid for the new TrueHD. Change to the new HDMI 1.3 processor will not change my world to be better because I知 feeding my projector directly from the DVD and use the digital link to pass audio to 990. Now I値l be forced to process video in new processor because of the HDCP. I think somebody is crazy out there.
