I'm confused. I am getting no output from my left front channel in Surr Mode: Stereo, Bypass nor Upsample. All other modes work fine within Surr. Mode.

I go to Input Config - Go to Audio Inputs - Name: CD - Audio: Analog

What is wrong? I want to listen in Bypass mode and can not.

Does it only happen with the CD input? If so, it could be a loose analog cable between the player and 990.

I'll disconnect the analog cables and reconnect them and let you know. In case that doesn't work, how do I try a full reset?

Pressing "SELECT" and "MENU" on the front panel at the same time while the unit is in standby will reset it to the factory defaults. Be sure to write down all of your settings (input config, speaker distances, channel trim, ...) first, as it'll all get wiped out. But it only affects the CD input, right? If so, I'd hold off on the reset until I'd tried some other things first. In addition to the analog interconnects, there could be an issue at the player (assuming other sources aren't affected).

When selecting 7.1 Direct, no sound comes out of the front left nor the surround right either. I checked all of the analog cables and everything is tight. What should I try next?

If the front left and surround right work with other sources (the internal test tones could be a good first test, but a calibration disc with individual channel test tones played via digital input would also be a useful check of the situation), then the problem can be traced back to the 7.1 Direct input or before it. You could swap left and right fronts and left and right surrounds at the 7.1 Direct input to see if the inactive channels move to the right front and left surround - if they did, that would eliminate the 7.1 Direct input as the problem. You could also try swapping out the left front and right surround cables for different cables, just to be sure that there's not a bad cable in the mix. If none of that uncovers a culprit, then we'd need to look more closely at the source...
