I have a Sony upconverting DVD Jukebox (HDMI output) and a Toshiba HD A2 HD DVD player (HDMI output). I am having problems connecting the video to my 990.

The 990 only has 2 DVI inputs. I bought 2 HDMI to DVI cables from monoprice and I have them hooked up to the 990. I reset the inputs on the menu of the 990 but I do not get any video signal.

I also bought a DVI to HDMI coverter for the DVI out. I have a HDMI cable hooked up to this and the HDMI cable goes to the TV.

I have double checked my settings and connections. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can try to get the video to appear?

Are you sure you've assigned the DVI inputs to the correct input label on the 990? I believe it ships with the DVI ports not assigned to any logical input.

I've used the HD-A2 with the 990's DVI switching, both on its own and with an additional switch in the signal path, and aside from one switch that gave me some grief in allowing the HDCP handshake I've had no problems with it. There are a few basics to check, which you may have already tried. I'd verify the connections (especially on the output side, since that would affect both sources), double-check that the inputs are defined right in the 990's setup menu, make sure the sources are both set to output resolutions that the TV supports (1080p won't work with my TV, for example, and many also won't accept 480i), make sure the TV's on the right input, and try turning the source device on after everything else is on in case there's an HDCP handshake issue lurking in there somewhere.

Make sure the HDMI-DVI cables work correctly. Had a bad one which would pass no video.

Openhelix and Gonk;

I had everything turned off, then turned on each piece of equip. I assigned each source to the DVI input (dvi 1 and dvi 2) and tried each source and neither worked.

I have given the 2 hdmi-dvi cables to someone to try to see if I have bad cables.

After he tries them, I will try it again and see if turning on the source equipment after the 990 is on makes a difference.

You might also want to check out the DVI-to-HDMI adapter and the associated HDMI cable - that's a common portion of the signal path, and it has more opportunities for failure points.

To do that, I would need to buy a new DVI to HDMI plug and try that. I know the HDMI cable works fine because I am currently using that specific cable and it is working fine.

I suppose its a cheap option, but I would rather exhaust other efforts first.

Assuming the cable lengths are cooperative and the DVI-to-HDMI cables check out, you could try using the two DVI-to-HDMI cables to connect one device to the 990 and the 990 to the TV. If that worked, the adapter would become the leading suspect.

What are the video capabilities of the DVI switching in the 990.

Does it have the capacity to pass the same quality video signal as the new HDMI 1.3 version?

The reason I ask is I have a projector with DVI only and no HDMI, you do not need audio going to a projector so would DVI suffice with HD DVD and blu Ray?

Thanks in advance.

The 990's DVI switching will handle 1080p video from an HDMI source to an HDMI display.

My setup is similar to yours: an HDTV with DVI input. I currently have four HDMI sources connected using a combination of the 990's DVI switching and an outboard HDMI switch, including an HD-DVD player and an HD cable box. All four work fine.
