How many digital coax audio ins does the Denon have vs the Outlaw? One of the issues I had with the 990 was fact that it only had 2 digital coax ins.

I also see you have the Ascend 340s. Do you have the first version or the newer SEs?

What do you think of them?

I've looked at them as one of the speakers I want to audition as a replacement of my Kenwood LCRs.

Also looked at the AV123 X-CS, the upcoming Outlaw LCR, and the Atlantic Technologies 6200e.

Whatever I use, all 3 fronts will be same and used in vertical D'Appolito array position.

The Denon has the same, just 2 digital coax inputs.

I use the 2 dig coax inputs for my DVD player, and Motorola HDTV cable box.

I have the first version, and I really like their sound. If you're going to try these with them all vertical, then don't order the center channel version of the 340. It contains a different crossover to compensate for being mounted over a screen. On the older 340, the tweeter is also turned 90 degrees.

Ascend Audio also now makes another speaker, which is supposed to sound even better. The Sierra.

Yeah, but I'm totally stuck on "D" arrays. I'm mainly a home theater guy, so it has to be good for that first and musicality is secondary.

One feature that the Denons have that I've missed since going to a 990/770 is the ability to use A, B or A&B side surrounds. I always liked using a set of direct reflecting surrounds to the rear of the room for mucic, particularly classical where the surround is primarily rear wall reflection. I have an old Rat Shack speaker selector around someplace that would let me duplicate this feature with the 990 but I've never bothered to set it up, so obviously not having this feature isn't a big deal.
Another neat feature is the ability to select digital, analog, or 5/7.1 direct input without changing video sources. This gave a lot more versitility in hook-up. My biggest concern with the 990 has always been the number of inputs, particularly video inputs, and having to use 2 to hook up a single DVD player ( one for digital inputs, one for 5.1 direct for DVD-As and SACDs)just aggravates the situation.
The 990/770 is far superior to the Denon sonically, but the Denon showed a lot of thouhgt in it's feature set and certainly has a more useful remote.
