Ok I am having a heck of a time figuring out what is going to work best for me. This bass management is really making it stressful for me. Since there is bass management in the 990 and the sms1 I really want to get the best sound and easy as possible. My equipment list is this.

Speakers front Marin Logan Monoliths biamped/low channel and high channel. Center speaker ML cinema. Rears ML areius. Subs are two LFM1 plus. Using hddvd player into 7.1 analog inputs and everything else using opitical. Confused on what to set the settings on speaker size and crossovers. Or should I disable them. And how to do that properly since I have the sms1 as well. My Monoliths provide deep base down to 20hz. I also dont want to overdrive them either. I have 800 watts of power reserved for each main at any given time.

My suggestion would be to disable the SMS-1's low pass crossover, set all speakers to small in the 990, and adjust the HD-DVD player so as to disable its bass management (all speakers large and sub on). The Monoliths have a -5dB point (not -3dB) of 28Hz, so I'd certainly run them small. You could probably go with a 40Hz crossover, but with those two LFM-1 Plusses you might also try 60Hz just to see how it does. The Aerius rears should probably be crossed over at 60Hz, possibly even 80Hz (-3dB point of 40Hz). The Cinema has a -3dB point of 80Hz, so you might actually want to cross it over around 100Hz.

When setting up the SMS-1, the fronts really must be set to small small and you should also adjust the crossover up to at least 80Hz. If you want to bump the front crossover back down to 60Hz or 40Hz afterward, that's fine, but you need the crossover that high to be able to deliver the SMS-1's test tone through the 990 and out to the subs.

Thanks alot dude. I am sure I will be asking more later on getting it fine tuned. Gosh I cant wait to get a pre amp that has hdmi instead. When you have both hd formats you can only get the pcm or dolby true out of one while the other has to be connected to optical.

Hi Gonk, just a question, I tried what you suggested to chipvideo setting the crossover to 80 to get the sms-1's test tone than I set it back to 60 where I had it, and the response curve is all messed up.To make a long story short after I downloaded the new firmware I figured I would recalabrate and play around.should I just calabrate at 60 and be done with it or 80 and then back to 60? Thanks Loopy

If the response curve messes up with the crossover at 60Hz, you may want to go back to using 80Hz - it's possible that there needs to be some room correction between 60Hz and 80Hz. This is exactly what happened to me - I had a peak at 63Hz, and the only way to quash it was to let the sub handle that range so the SMS-1 could take care of it (even though my Paradigms can comfortably get down into the 40's).

Hi Gonk, thanks for help, what I had was a peak around 32 and a dip at 40 than a small peak at 50,and a huge dip at 100. What I found was to turn up the volume on the sms slightly from 11 to 13 and lower some of the peaks and brought up the 63 ,80 and 100, the 100 is up about 5.0. Is that is that alright? Also my Klipsch's seem to be similar in response to your Paradigms down to 37. thanks Again Loopy.
