I'm waiting until outlaw puts forth a successor to the 990 before I buy anything. I've had my yamaha 757 receiver for a while now working as a processor for 6 klipsch rf-7's and an rc-7. I've allready taken care of the amp part...an Adcom 7807 300x7 now drives them. I'm just waiting on a processor, and a hd-dvd player to complete my system.
I just wanted to let outlaw know that they have a potential new customer out here, i'd rather see them do it right than hurry something out the door, I'm all about the AUDIO side of things, video changes too fast, give me the best hdmi/audio processing and a sweet set of dac's and I'm IN!

I couldn't agree more. I was on the fence about purchasing a new Denon 4308CI as a pre/pro but for the price they are asking, I feel I could be wasting my money because I have no need for the amp portion of the 4308. I sure hope Outlaw, which I sure they will, will have a better bang for the buck price tag on it. Oh yeah, I also hope they keep the new pre/pro's the same color as the 7700, please, I beg of Outlaw, don't make silver an only option, if anything, make black and silver.

I find trying to cram in video processors and xm tuners, I pod connections, and networking capabilities a little overkill. I'm not saying I wouldn't like to have all of that, just not at the expense of true core componentry, like the best dac's, op amps, transformers, chassis, xlr's and a decent array of the latest hdmi connections.
Most all of that other stuff can be added on through external devices that do it better anyways. Outlaw waiting to come out with hdmi connections that are proven to do it all is the best thing that they can do for them and us the consumers. Also spending time on the things we can't add on ourselves is more beneficial, like nameable inputs, easily navigated menu's, dimmable displays, crossovers and bass management are what us true audiophiles are REALLY after.

How about Outlaw makes the HDMI board interchangeable and not a permanent part of the back of the unit for when the standard changes again? Also how about a pair of XLR inputs for the successor of the 990.

The HDMI board itself is only part of the equation - too many other things (both audio and video) can be affected by possible future revisions, so the added expense of a user-removable daughter board may still not allow a convenient upgrade path later.

Just ask the owners of the onkyo txnr1000 about there interchangeable hdmi cards.....so far they aren't too happy about that idea, I would love something that is future proof, but the problem is that you can never tell what the future may bring. Granted they may get there update, but it's been a long time coming.

For me, the room my Outlaw gear is inn is my H/T room. My room is used 95% of the time just for H/T use, the other 5% of the time, I may listen to music of some sort when I'm cleaning the room but other than that, I rarely listen to music in the H/T room, most of the time the stereo in the game room is going if I'm downstairs.
For Outlaw to start adding all the extras like satellite radio, HD radio, etc. it would be a waste for me due to me never using it. Internet ability wouldn't be a bad idea for future firmware updates but just like the Denon 4308, there will always be some sort of connection to the net problems until things are ironed out so for me, I like the way the updates are done now, it's not like we get new firmware updates every week anyways.
If Outlaw could just build onto the 990 that they use now, that would keep me happy. I'd like to see a new pre/pro with 5-6 HDMI inputs, 2 outs ver. 1.3 atleast, adding 1-3 additional video inputs onto the back probaly wouldn't hurt either, I'm pretty much full, the ability to pass the OSD via component and HDMI so when adjusting volume settings, it pops up on screen, the display on the 990 is kinda hard to see from 18' away. Of course I'd like to see the ability to decode all the new audio formats coming out also, True HD etc. and finally, maybe another dial on the front of the unit that allows you to switch inputs by just turning the dial (something I think they need to add anyways). As far as the rest of the unit, they can keep it exactly the way the 990 currently is and I'd be perfectly happy.

Grimster: Goos idea, but when you look at the changes you are suggesting, it basically means that they have to start from scratch. I suspect that is waht they are doing.

Oh, without a doubt, I'm pretty sure thats what Outlaw Audio is doing, starting from scratch. I'm just saying I'd rather them take their time starting from scratch and get it right the first time around then delaying the unit because some of the options that many people want prohibit the unit from working properly. If Outlaw Audio adds all of the features that many want, sure, that won't keep me from purchasing the unit, hell, I'll be one of the first in line to place my order, just seems sometimes simplicity is best. As a matter of fact, I'm still waiting for Outlaw to contact me to let me know their prototype is on it's way to my house for Beta testing . Thats just my .02 cents.
