Just tried scrolling through the various modes you mentioned and didn't see the results you mentioned. I am able to scroll through 5-Channel, Stereo, Bypass and Upsample using the remote. I see the changes on the 990 display. Same with the Dolby and DTS modes. I can scroll through them while having the 990 in CD mode. Same with DVD mode.
