I bought a 990 processor B Stock. It arrived the 30th of August. I matched it up to my 770 amp that I've had for a couple of years. In short, I can't believe how fantastic the 990 sounds with my Outlaw 770 amp.

I have a question on the upsample for cd and dvd.
When I change from upsample to say 5 channel stereo using the remote while playing a cd, I can't put it back into upsample without going into audio input setup in the menu. Also, I must change source from cd to FM etc. before the unit will let me change a surround mode on the cd in the menu. Is this normal?

Just tried scrolling through the various modes you mentioned and didn't see the results you mentioned. I am able to scroll through 5-Channel, Stereo, Bypass and Upsample using the remote. I see the changes on the 990 display. Same with the Dolby and DTS modes. I can scroll through them while having the 990 in CD mode. Same with DVD mode.

I'm going to try a reset on the 990 to see if that will remedy my problem. I'll list my findings.

It appears to be functioning correctly now.
I had the SYSTEM LOCK set to ON.

When trying to change modes, is the CD player playing at the time? If it is stopped, there would be no bitstream coming to the 990 and it wouldn't be able to determine what modes might be available.

It was stopped.

Make sure it's still playing and try it again - that may have been the problem.

Sounds like you were able to remedy the situation. I hope the System Lock wasn't set to ON when Outlaw shipped it to you. Mine was set to off. Time to enjoy that 990 of yours.

It was shipped to me set at off, also.

I will check it out again, and let you know the result ASAP. For now, the wife has taken over the TV.

It has not repeated. It was probably not sensing the bitstream. Let's chalk this up to me being a turtle( new to this processor).

Gee, my "A" stock didn't.............

They don't unpack A stock to update firmware in most cases (it gets whatever version was installed at the factory), but B stock are already opened so they often get the update before they ship out.

I ordered an "A" stock unit and asked to have the latest firmware installed before shipping. Outlaw did it for me and put a sticker on the box to indicate they had opened it. FYI....
