I have a 950 preamp and wanted to upgrade to the 990. Does it support newer audio formats as PCM or uncompressed audio for blu-ray and HD DVD?

I may have the terms wrong but hopefully you can figure it out. smile

Thank you!

The 990 does not accept audio via HDMI (including multichannel PCM), but the multichannel analog input does provide an avenue for these formats assuming your player has a multichannel analog output. You might want to glance at my HDMI FAQ for a crash course in the new audio formats and connectivity relating to them

Two bass management questions, one of which I suppose I could test easily enough to find the answer, but haven’t yet …

When both digital bass management and varying distance (delay) adjustments are applied (to all speakers set for ‘small’), is the bass below the crossover point pulled from the 5.0 or 7.0 signals and summed for the subwoofer output before the delays are applied to the 5.0 or 7.0 signals? Or are the delays applied first, then the low frequencies pulled and summed for the subwoofer? I would think the former, but thought I’d ask.

When the front three speakers are set to ‘large’, the surrounds are set to small, and the subwoofer is set to ‘LFE’ or ‘none’, are the low frequencies from the surrounds all summed and sent half to each of the L & R fronts, or are the low frequencies from the left surround(s) sent to the left front speaker and the low frequencies from the right surround(s) sent to the right front speaker?

I'd have to test these, myself (assuming I could concoct a good test for the first question, which I'm not entirely sure I could do). I do believe that your thought on the first question is correct - that delays are applied after the bass management is completed.
