Well after unpacking all my gear in my new home, I found that my trusty Sony STR-DA777ES was damaged and will not fire up. I have used this receiver for many years as a pre/pro with my Parasound HCA1205A amp. I finally have a reason to upgrade to the 990 which I have been reading about for a long time. I just placed my order and look forward to it's arrival. I asked for the latest firmware to be installed which should not be a problem since I read in another thread that this can be done if asked for.

Well you're going to definitely enjoy it, I know I do. I think it's a wise purchase.

As a new owner of the Model 990 and using a Parasound HCA-1205A like you, I am enjoying the new found sounds and imaging that was lacking in my old Parasound AVC-1800 processor. I think you will like the upgrade like I do.

Just a quick note. I also just purchased my 990 and asked that they upgrade the firmware before shipping. They said they would but they didn't. Not a big deal and they apologized. I did the upgrade with only minor trouble. I am curious. What firmware version are others receiving. I received mine last week with version 3.07, 04. The 04 indicates the build date. Are all the "new" units shipping with 04 build dates?

Mactoast,
I just checked mine and it reads 3.11.04 firmware version. Received my 990 last Saturday but it was a B-stock unit.

I received my 990 on June 12th. I did not request that the new firmware be installed and and it arrived with 3.07 04.
I upgraded without much trouble (other than getting behind my rack to install the USB cable)
;-)

I got my 990 this year and the build date is 2004, as far as I could tell, they all are and Outlaw likely bought a batch of them in the beginning and will sell them until they sell out, like the 1070.
I bet how many units they have let to sell out has some weight to how soon they release the next version.

Glad to hear the Parasound is a good match with the 990 Haven't heard from anyone yet, how long does the shipping process usually take? Hopefully the firmware update doesn't slow the process down too much. Thank you all for the encouragement, can't wait to hear the music again!!
