I understand that the 990 zone 2 inputs must be analog, however, my new Roku Soundbridge M1001 has only these outputs: digital toslink and digital Coax, plus line level 1/8"(?).
Is there a workaround to get the Soundbridge into zone 2? I connected the Soundbridge to the 990's AUX with the toslink and tried connecting the analog AUX outputs to the 990's analog TAPE inputs, and then set the zone 2 to TAPE, (hoping that this would constitute and analog input) the but I got no zone 2 sound. Funny, but I can get sound in zone 1 setting the input to TAPE.

Any ideas?

You can use the 1/8" line level to connect to the left/right RCA's of an audio input using an adapter. It'll probably be easier than the scheme you are usign with the toslink and the 990's record output. Look for a cable like this or use an adapter like this and a set of normal stereo audio cables.

DOUH!
OK, I'll try to respect people's time here and partially answer my own question. With a 1/8" RCA splitter adapter plugged in to the M1001, I can connect patch cables and get the Soundbridge into zone 2.
I'm still curious, why won't the AUX to TAPE analog work and is the splitter adapter - patch cables method the best solution.
I read Gonk's review of the Soundbridge M500, it seems the digital is going to sound better in any case.
Thanks and sorry for the simple question in the original post.

smile - Gotta be quick around here.

I'd use digital for the main zone listening and analog just for the second zone (set up the AUX input to use the digital connection and run the analog to the AUX input as well. That way, the main zone will use the digital input but the second zone will have the analog available to use.

Your original wiring scheme was pretty ingenious, actually. I may have to sketch it out and try to figure out what went wrong and what went right. smile
