I have my SA8300DVR connected to video 1 of the 990 and selected to use DVI 1. I also connected the composite and Svideo connections from the SA8300 into the video 1 of my 990. From there, the monitor out of the 990 for both the composite and svideo are connected to my LCD.

I cannot get the composite or svideo signals to show up thru the monitor out of the 990 when I am on the video 1 setting as above. To trouble shoot, I direct connected the cable SA8300 composite and svideo to the LCD and they are both there and active, so the issue lies in the 990 not passing the video.

I read previous threads that stated the video should pass thru and am at a loss as to how to fix it from here, before I contact tech support next week.

I am on the latest firmware, 3.11 and just got my 990 about 1.5 months back.

I also tried the video rec monitor output and it also does not pass the video. Anyone have any ideas?

If you have not already done so, you should try only 1 (one) connection (the DVI 1).

You might try moving the 8300 to Video2 and using the Video1 record output instead of the monitor output - with DVI selected, it may not be worrying about feeding the other inputs to the monitor outputs, but the record outputs would still get a signal (the move to Video2 is based on the idea that having Video1 inputs go back out the Video1 record output might not be done simply because it would be a bit recursive, so to speak).

Another thought - try the zone2 output?

I assume that the LCD you are connecting to is a small screen for monitoring the 990's on-screen data, right? Or is there another purpose for the composite/s-video connection?

The purpose of the video out is 2 fold, to record to my DVDR and also to feed a cable modulator to another room. I will try and switch the inputs and see.

Still no luck, moved the 8300 to video 2, went to the inputs and reconfigured it in the menu. Still could not get the video to pass thru to the composite or svideo. Even went to Zone 2 and enabled it for the video 2 input and still no luck. To not even get Zone 2 out is a sign that something is not working right cause I have tried a lot of permutations with no success.

Update, I guess I didn't try enough permutations. The culprit is the 8300 via DVI. The video is there for a few seconds, then the video blanks, but not before I see the HDCP warning screen flash. Disconnected the power to the 8300 and unplugged the HDMI, reboot, then with analog component, the analog sources are also there and present.

What is weird is that when I display the composite on a small external lcd (not my main 42" panel other composite input), the signal is there and says present. I am guessing I need to play around some more with the set up.

The only time I've used the analog output on my 8300HD is when dubbing video using the "record to VCR" command with the DVR - in which case the s-video and stereo analog cables that are connected directly to my DVD-recorder are getting a signal that is completely independent from the component and coaxial digital outputs that I watch. The Pace DC550 that I had prior to it would disable the component (and possibly other analog outputs) almost any time the DVI output negotiated an HDCP handshake - I wouldn't be surprised to find similar (potentially inconsistent) behavior from the 8300HD.

I verified, it is the HDCP handshake, but it does not affect the external mini-lcd or cable modulated signal, just what I try to play back on the 42" LCD which is also receiving the HDMI convereted to DVI signal. There must be some kind of loop back on the signal path that causes the HDCP to kick in and disable the analog outputs on the 8300. Otherwise, seems to work now. Thanks for the help and ear to let me work thru this.
