Hi folks, It happened a few times recently. Last night it did not turn on again, either by the remote or the stand-by/on button of the 990. The orange pilot light turned to blue for a second or 2 and changed back to orange. Nothing happened.
I had ensured that the remote is on "TNR" Mode. I tried switching off the main power using the main power button at the back and even unplug the power cord at the back, several times. It did work in former incidents, but not last night no more.
Should I "RESET" the 990? I haven't call Scott yet.

Might as well do a reset. Anytime I've called for technical support, that's pretty much the first thing they're going to ask you to do.

If removing the power cord or turning off the main switch in the back and waiting at least several minutes before plugging it back in, or turning the main switch back on (to allow power supply capacitors to COMPLETELY discharge) didn't work, the reset isn't going to help. This sounds more like a hard failure than a glitch.

We tell you folks the outcome tomorrow.

Gonk, where is the OPR/SVC Switch? Must be at the back of 990. I haven't touch anything at the back lately. I could turn it on the night before, only not last night!

Kwok,
Your settings will definitely NOT be there after the reset; make a note of them before starting. One thing that I've found useful is to take digital pictures of the on-screen display for all levels of the setup. I've done enough swaps, resets and firmware upgrades that it's very convenient to have a distinct description of how it's set.
gonk's idea of the SVC/OPR switch is a good one as well. Even if you haven't touched it, perhaps it was somehow "in between" and just started to make a contact with the "SVC" side of the switch.
Good luck.

Yep, OPR/SVC switch is on the back, and is labeled as such. You'll need a paperclip or little screwdriver to switch it, but it's there.

Otto, great advice. Tks. I will do the reset last priority. Yap, the manual says that all customised setting will be erased after reset. This is definitely a painful reset process. Hee heeeeeeee (bitter smile!)

Hello Kwok,
The factory reset will have greater impact than a removal of the power cord alone (as evidenced by the time it takes to reload your customized settings). However, the recommendation to first check that the "opr/srv" switch has not slipped into the "srv" mode is a good one. If this proves not to be the case, then perform the reset.
If neither of these suggestions restore your unit to normal operation, please contact us so that we may assist you further.
Best Regards,
Scott

Scott and others,
I had tried several resets and 990 could only turn on a few times after each reset.
I noticed that the turn on sequency response is rather slow. In the past, once I pressed the "DVD" OR "CD" button on the remote, the 990 kicked in (turned on) instantly, with two distinctive "click" "click" sounds. (i.e. "click" "click" at once). But not now. After the first "Click" sound, the 5 speaker icons showed up on the front panel window, without the words next to them. After about 1 second and half, 2nd "Click" was heard, then the words next the the speaker icon appeared. Again, the double clicks would be heard almost instantly in the past, but not now.
If I heard clearly the double clicks instantly and distinctively after the pressed the POWER button on the remote, I can turn back the 990 on, after the remote's light were gone.
990 could not turn back on if I only heard 1 weak "click" after pressing the POWER button.
Awaiting more direction from Scott. Pls tell me if I have to call you on the phone. If yes, pls give me your phone number and the time to call you. I am at New Jersey, East Coast. Tks.
Kwok Lau.

Try redownloading the firmware and see if that works. I had the same problem and I just reburned flash and everything has been fine since.

TheAlphabet, How frequent you had experienced the problem of need to turn off the main power at the back of your unit or plugged from the wall outlet? Did it happen lately to your 990?
I had my 990 returned with the latest firmware installed after repaired. Scott advised me that they did not find anything wrong, but still changed a few capacitors at power section.
I took Scott's advice of plugging the 990 to the wall outlet directly.
For past 2 weeks, I turned it on 4 times. 2 times I had to switch off the power main switch at the back of the unit. First instance I left and waited overnight before I tried again. 2nd instance, I waited a few minutes before pushed the main switch back on and it turned on with the remote. This 50% sucessfully switching my 990 on with the remote on the last 4 tries confused and fustrated me a bit. I am wondering what I should try next.
