I have a Panasonic multi-format (PAL/NTSC) plasma monitor. When connecting a PAL source to the front Input 5 on the 990 the picture is black and white. I had expected the signal to be passed through to monitor and displayed in color. If I connect the source directly to the monitor it works in color.

Should I expect a PAL signal routed via the 990 to display in color?

Are you connecting via component, or are you using composite or s-video? Composite and s-video are transcoded to component, but I suspect that transcoding assumes you have an NTSC signal.

I was using the front panel connectors for Input 5 - I tried S-Video and composite.

The 990 output is connected via component to the monitor.

Maybe I should find and try a component input on the 990 rear.

No problem - there are three of them.

I'd try component to eliminate the transcoding (which I suspect is NTSC-based). As psyprof1 says, there are three of them available to you.
