Here's what I do with my DVD player (which serves double-duty as a CD player as well): I have two inputs configured to use the same digital input. The "DVD" input applies Pro Logic IIx processing to Dolby Digital 2.0 and PCM stereo sources as well as Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1 sources (Dolby EX and DTS ES of course force those specific decoding modes because of the accompanying flags). The "CD" input applies upsampling to PCM stereo sources. The same player and digital audio connection handles both sources, but I only have to pick "CD" or "DVD" on the remote to have the 990 do what I want it to. Also, be sure the Ref1's are set to "small" to insure that the sub is in the mix for music. That should do the trick for you. You could even set up a third input for TV (live and recorded) using a different set of default processing modes if your needs in those cases differed from your DVD surround mode needs.
