I have two favorite areas in my basement home theater area to be listening to music or watching a movie. One is sitting dead center on an Ekornes Vegas reclining chair: http://new.ekornes.com/us/stressless/stressless_recliners/stresslesstamparenov ...and the other is lying down on a couch at the left side of the room. http://www.palliser.com/ProductDisplay.php?product_group=sofas&link=0 I wish it was possible to have two memory buttons for setting up the 990 so that both of these sitting positions was set up perfectly for all of the speakers. If this is possible, please let me know. If it is not, maybe it would be a great addition on a future version of the software for the 990.

As you have discovered there is just one speaker setup (delay and trim) available in the 990. Before the latest firmware was released there were a number of requests for each input to have its own speaker settings. If that suggestion had been implemented you'd be able to do what you suggest. Unfortunately, speaker settings for each input was not included in the update. I don't know if the 990 can be modified to include that feature but it still is at the top of my list of 990 updates I'd like to see.
This work-around might help when you are listening to stereo music. I found that I like different L & R trim levels when watching movies versus listening to stereo music. When I'm listening to music I turn on the 990's trim menu and adjust the R speaker according to taste and the recording; I really like that stereo image right down the middle. I typically adjust the R trim anywhere from 1 to 3dB from what was determined by test tones and my SPL meter. I turn off my plasma to avoid burning in the menu image. When I'm done I return the R speaker trim to the original setting.
By the way...nice furniture.

AvFan,
Thanks for your comments. I actually ordered the furniture and it is expected in about 3 weeks. I think that I will try out your work-around. Have a great weekend.

Avfan - curious, how old is your plasma? I bought one in December & never worry about news or sports tickers etc. Mine has some sort of constant refreshing cycle something or other..perhaps i've just been lucky.

Arky,
I'm trying to figure out what you meant by your comments above. With regard to being lazy, I'm assuming that you meant that I can only watch movies or listen to music while reclining. I don't know what it is, but currently I am sitting in a sand chair (very uncomfortable) waiting for my furniture to arrive. You know, the $20.00 chair that I get at Costco until it breaks and then I buy a new one every couple of years.
The Aragon amps are fun. I have the Outlaw 7700 at the office and I've gone off the deep end with the Aragons. I purchased them all used on Audiogon, Ebay, etc. I have an 8008 x 3 for the l/c/r, an 8008 x 2 bi-amped to the l/r, an 8008 x 2 for the surrounds and a 4004 x 2 going to the rear surrounds.
Every time I turn one of the 4 amps on, the lights dim. I guess the 1800 watts will cause that to happen.
P.S. I'm still enjoying the Gusdorf furniture that you recommended at the office...thanks.

Arky,
My plasma is about 4 years old and at the time there was real concern about burn-in. My manual specifically warns about leaving an image in one location too long. I've been very careful to always use it in full screen mode when we watch TV (even if things are oddly stretched) and only have black bars top and bottom when we watch movies. So far those pesky logos on most stations have not caused a problem.
Now all the talk of burn-in may have been overblown four years ago, but I still take it seriously. I don't want to ignore the manufacturer's warning and find out I've permanently damaged my monitor. I'm going to be in the market for a new larger plasma in about 6 to 8 months and I understand, as you stated, the latest plasmas have greatly diminished burn-in issues.

Avfan
That makes sense. You will be able to use your old one in the BR maybe. Todays technology is much advanced & who knows in 6 to 8 months.
Do you use the Harmony to operate all your components? How easy is it to control dish? thanks JT

Arky,
Yeah, the Hitachi is eventually headed to the master bedroom when I buy a new and much improved 50" plasma. So far the Panasonic TH-50PH9UK and the Pioneer PDP-5070 are at the top of my list. I'm also considering a video processor to get the maximum from the display. I'm doing lots of research now.
I really like my Harmony 880 and so does my family. Just today I added a VCR to the list of equipment the 880 controls. The process took about 10 minutes. FYI, I have cable not a dish but I have no doubt the 880 would be up to the task of controling a dish.
