Look I love my new 990/7700 combo, plus the fact I made a great deal. I have been hearing rumors about Outlaw putting a new processor out later this year or at the latest 2008. THE 999. One of the questions that I read on this forum was would Outlaw give any discount on the 999 to current owners of the 990.
The respones were negative or at least seem that way.
Searching the web I found this information on Emotiva.

Announces Aggressive 40% Discount Program
for Current Owners
Emotiva Audio Corporation, one of the most aggressively-priced, high quality Internet direct-to-consumer electronics companies, is offering a discount trade up program for original owners of ALL Emotiva Surround Sound Processors!

Emotiva is currently developing its next generation A/V processor platform to be released in January of 2008. This new platform will offer HDMI version 1.3 switching, support for Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD, automatic setup and calibration, automatic room correction EQ, high quality video up-conversion to 1080p over HDMI and many more exciting features. Additional details will be announced in the coming months; rest assured, this new A/V processor will be state of the art.

All original Emotiva Processor owners will be eligible for a 40% discount on the purchase price of their new A/V processor.

Does anyone have any thoughts or information on this? Us Outlaw's have to stick togather and fight back.

For what it's worth, I'll point out the official word from Outlaw that while plans are in the works for the successors to the 990 and 970, there is no timetable in place for their release. The nearest thing to estimates in when the next gen platforms will arrive are just guesses from folks around the forum (I'll claim the "2008" date as my current best guess, but it's just SWAG).

Emotiva's kind of the new kid on the block, and their entry-level processor (the LMC-1) has had a particularly bumpy roll-out. They're also expected to offer a mid-level processor (the MMC-1) any day now, which will have HDMI but will be limited to video switching (basically the same functionality as the 970 and 990 have but with different plugs). The discount program may be a way to draw interest in their current product lines during this transitional period.

The announcement of their HDMI v1.3 product feels early to me. HDMI v1.3 is still young, the capabilities they describe will take a lot of engineering to get working right, and the LMC-1 launch (which involved a much less sophisticated platform than the unit they are describing) was delayed repeatedly. I'm particularly dubious about the ~August '07 release date I've heard reported recently. It makes launching the MMC-1 now seem like an odd marketing choice, among other things.

The DMC-1 is a rock-solid product (based on the Sunfire Theater Grand IV), so there's certainly potential for their HDMI v1.3 product to offer some quality competition in the marketplace.

Gonk, I just spent a couple of hours on the Emotive website and was pretty impressed. Are you convinced (still) of the 990's superiority over the MMC-1 or DMC-1?

Superiority? I've considered the 990 to be a close competitor to the DMC-1 sonically and with just a couple extra features (more robust bass management), but I don't think that it's superior. The DMC-1 originally retailed for $3000 and is basically a rebadged Sunfire Theater Grand IV - it's a much more expensive piece of hardware that has moved down to the current price point only recently (probably due in some significant part to the age of the platform, as the Theater Grand V has been out for a year or so already). I have my worries about Emotiva's surround processing policies (which had been limited solely to the LMC-1 until this recent thread and its continuation at AV123 suggested that they might have done some weird things with the DMC-1's DTS modes), but the DMC-1 is based on a very good platform - certainly an equal to the 990. The MMC-1 is supposed to be a scaled-down DMC-1 (omitted the fancy wood side panels and balanced pre-amp outputs), but last I heard they hadn't gotten it shipping yet.
