HEy Everyone

I am trying to hook up my Playstation II to the 990. I hhoked up the component to Video 2 In, but all I get is black and white. PSII manual recommends an optical cable. Any ideas?

The optical cable is the way to go for audio. For the video, component is the best bet, and if you are not getting color from component I'd double-check the connections - one may be loose or they may be reversed somewhere.

I doubled checked the component connection, and switched them and so forth. I also tried connecting to VID 1 In instead of 2. Same result. Weird, as it actually works if I connect to the TV, so it isn't the cord or the 990.

Just to follow up on my connections. The video is hooked up to the TV, and I connected an optical to the 990 for audio. Not ideal, but about the only thing that works right now. I believe the connection from the PSII is composite, and not component. I tried hooking into composite on the 990 but got the same results.

What does the video cable look like that you're using? If you've got a red/white/yellow bundle at the end of the cable from the PS2, then you've got composite video (with left/right analog audio to boot). In that case, you should be able to connect the yellow cable to the composite video input of the 990 and then use whatever video (up to and including component, with only DVI excluded) to the TV. If you want component with the PS2, you'll need a set of cable with red/white for audio and red/blue/green for video. Unfortunately I don't have a PS2 so don't know what settings may be required to get all the ducks in a row at the PS2 end for component output to work properly.
