Hello everyone,
I'm having a bit of a problem with my speaker setup. I know I initially chose to set my main speakers to large (Totem, floor standing, Hawks) and while I have all the other settings at “none,” it won't allow me to turn Surr L/R to the “none” position, despite the fact that I don't have these speakers (all I currently have are my Hawks). It will allow me to change the Surr L/R setting between small and large, but not to “none.” And, now, for some reason, it won't let me change the main speakers back to small; it stays at large. Do you have any idea why this is happening?
thanks,
John

There's two issues at play here. First, you can set your main speakers to small unless you also have a sub available - the 990 needs to have somewhere to send LFE tracks and low frequency data from other small speakers, and if there's no sub then the mains have to cover that. Second, there's a bug in the 990 that does not allow both the center and the surrounds to be disabled at the same time.
If you don't have a sub, I'd set the mains to "large" (only option without a sub), the center and rear surrounds to "none," and the side surrounds to "small" - I'd rather set the side surrounds to "none" as well, but the bug won't let me. This is the way that UMtiger has his 990 set up while he waits to upgrade his speakers and amp to a surround setup. You'll want to operate in stereo processing modes (stereo, upsample, or Dolby VS) as long as you only have two channels, so the surrounds won't get any data anyway.

Thanks for the explanation, Gonk.
I'll make the change, now.
