I currently have a Logitech Harmony 720 remote. Is the 890 (see link) better because of the rf rather than the ir?

Also, how do people attach photos directly to emails rather than as attachments?

In addition, yesterday I connected a new Outlaw optical cable between my dvd and the 990. Also, new Monster cables with the arrows facing from the amp toward the 990. (Is the correct direction?)

I replaced ordinary cables and to my surprise the hum went away. I wonder if this is just coincidence or it actually made a difference? Just some food for thought.

There are some Harmony remote users around here who can offer a better comparison than I between the 720 and the 890 - I'm not even sure what the 720 might be lacking aside from RF in comparison to the 890 (it's no longer listed on Logitech's site). If your equipment is concealed, the RF could certainly come in handy, but you'll need IR emitters to deliver those signals to the equipment (the 890 does appear to include the RF receiver that has a half-dozen or so IR outputs).

If the cables are directional (the arrow indicates at which end the shield is grounded, typically), the arrow should point in the direction of the signal path. For a connection between amp and 990, that direction is from the 990 to the amp and the arrows should point toward the amp.

If you are talking about having pictures appear in the body of an e-mail instead of simply as attachments, you'll need to have the e-mail formatted as HTML or rich text rather than plain text (I prefer plain text myself, but some of that may be a vestigial tendency from the days of using pine to check e-mail on the university server).

gonk,

As always, thank you for your advice. I'm glad I asked as I do have the arrows pointing in exactly the opposite direction currently. I will correct them today.

I thought Aaronmadler was asking how to include a picture on a post in this forum (Aaronmadler?)

garcianc2003,

I was asking how to add a photo on a post in this forum. I know how to add it via a link, but how to add it directly to a post so that it shows up with or without text directly?

Ahhh... To put a picture in a post, you need to have the picture on the 'net already - the forum doesn't support hosting files. If you have a link to the picture already, just put it between IMG tags. For example (remove the spaces):

[ IMG ]http://www.prillaman.net/image/outlaw_gonk.jpg[ /IMG ]

not to mention plain text is just the safer way to go... still compile pine from source for our Sun Solaris users at work....great mail client.

Why the long lines requiring slider action to read on this site?

Could be the second link in the first post - it's wrapping for me, but might not for all browsers.

I have the Harmony 890. Works great, but I'd save a couple of dollars and buty the 880 instead, if most of your switching is line of sight.
