Ive been playing with all the settings trying to get it how i want and was wondering about the crossover selection on the 990. If your speakers are set to large do the crossovers still apply? Like if my front are set to large and the crossover is set to 40hz(since thats as low as it goes) does it see a full signal or is everything below 40hz cut off?

If the speakers are set to large, the crossover does not get applied (full range goes to the speaker, nothing goes to the sub). There's only one exception: if the fronts are set to large, you can set the sub to "L/R+Sub" and you'll get "double bass" - the mains get full range, but the sub also gets a copy of everything below the fronts' crossover point. I've got a detailed run-down of the 990's bass management here in addition to the notes in my main review .

If your front speakers don't go below 40Hz, you're probably best off setting them to "small" so the sub can handle the material below the crossover point.

Gonk, I believe we had this conversation before but I'm always looking to improve sound for free. I currently have the Aeon i's set to Large @ 40hz, center & Surr's set to Small @ 80hz and the sub set to L/R+Sub. With your last statement, would you suggest I set the Aeon i's to small @ 40hz, leave the surrounds as it and go LFE Only on the sub?

I'd certainly give it a try with the Aeon I's set to small - with a 40hz crossover, it should be easy for the sub to integrate with the mains.

Gonk, tried it.....hated it! However, reducing the fronts to 40hz and setting the sub to LFE Only is very pleasing. The bass is now tighter since its not being duplicated with L/R+Sub. Now I've lost some dialog from the center so I'm thinking of changing it to large and maybe dropping down to 60hz vice 80. Thoughts?

Well, it was worth a try... smile

If you set the center to large, the crossover will be irrelevent as there will be no bass management applied to that speaker. The Cinema i's -3dB point is 80Hz, so I wouldn't go below that crossover point. In fact, I'd probably try 100Hz as a crossover for the Cinema i. After all, dialog is going to be a long way up from the crossover point, so we're mainly just trying to make sure that the speaker isn't being asked to do things it's not capable of.

Ok...100hz it is. And I should leave it set to small?

That's what I'd do.
