I recently purchased a MX-3000 remote. I managed to have it learn all the functions of 990 Outlaw remote; and it works perfectly in the IR mode.

The issue is this - when i use the RF Remote Base Station for the MX-3000 (it is called the MRF-250) the 990 does not respond. All my other components (Oppo 970, Dish VIP 622, and HPTC) work with the "flashers" that are part of IP remote base station.

I know the programming of the remote is not an issue becuase when i use line of site with the MX-3000 the 990 responds.

Has anyone else had this problem using remote IR base stations

By the was, love the 990 - great value, terrific performance.

Thanks
Lewis

Are you plugging the base station into the 990's rear IR input? For my Xantech IR repeater system , the 990 requires a 794-10 interface module. I use a flasher attached to the front IR sensor.

Gonk - Thanks for the reply. I am confused. I put the flasher from the MRF-250 in front of the 990 - this did not work, nor did the MRF-250 base unit work (although the MX-3000 does)

Are you saying that i need to hook up the Xantech IR to the MRF-250 and then use an output from that repeater into the 990; or I replace the MRF-250 with the Xantech?

Thanks again

It wasn't clear to me if you were using a flasher or not. Since you are, I'd check to make sure it's over the IR sensor properly. You might also borrow an IR emitter from one of the other devices and stick it on the 990's IR sensor to make sure it's not a faulty emitter.

Gonk is right. Its either a bad flasher or the location of the flasher since I am using the exact same remote and base station as you are and have never had any problems with it and my 990.

theproletariat - Gonk got me going as far as getting some of the gear in the remote but I cannot get the darn thing to work at all. I don't think anythings wrong with the remote --- just operator error. I really don't want to pay someone $300 to do it but its driving me crazy. How did you get yours done so easily.

Maybe I was lucky but my installation went pretty easy. I first had the remote learn all the codes for the various components. I hooked up the RF base station with the IR flashers. I did take each flasher individually and move it around the IR sensor of each component to find the optimum location for the flasher (One thing I did do was have my wife in the other room with the remote so I knew the signal would have to be coming from the RF station and not from the remote). From what I can remember the Dish receiver was the hardest to find the sensor and the 990 was the easiest.
If I am understanding you correctly you can control your other components remotely using the IR flashers but the 990 only works with line of sight. If this is the case then the only thing I know to do is what Gonk had suggested earlier about moving the IR flasher around and trying one from a different component that you know works. If that doesn't work than I not sure what else to try.

Lewis,
I have the MX-850 + the MRF-250. I had been using the 850 as an RF line of sight remote for several months before hooking up the MRF-250. I initially had issues with the IR use. I finally dicovered the various settings in the software under the "Program" menu, "RF Setup". After tweeking with them. I believe I set them all to "IR & RF" and having the flasher settings on the right "line" or jack position in the rear of the MRF-250, AND playing with the flasher position on the 990 front panel - things finally began working remotely. Hope this helps-if you haven't already solved the problem another way.

Guys - thanks for all the input.

After messing around with it for a while i am getting it to work some of the time, but the IR flasher needs to be angled "just right" in frount of the IR eye on the 990 for it to work.

I am thinking of trying something else (a new MRF-250) because it is sort of unusable with the partial fix.

I will try messing with the codes again - I checked and the setting is set to "IR and RF". I will try a few different channels this weekend (the setting on the bottom of the MRF-250) to see if it an interference issue.

Again, thanks for all the feedback
