I seem to be having problems with operation
first to get any operation from the remote I have to press o the buttons really hard, I mean really hard, changed batteries, same problem, second, remote does not work when I am in front of unit only when I am going through my ir repeater in the other room. gear is in another location.when I get it to work lets say on the menu screen , the cursors go haywire up and down by themselves.third.I can not get the buttons on the 990 itself to work, if I press input on the unit nothing changes , same thing with the menu button, yes I know that is for on screen tv only. the only button on the 990 that seems to work is the power/standby. and the tuner ctrls when I can get the input tochange from the remote, I also cannot get trigger 2 to turn the sms 1 on and off, the trigger is active on both units.

any help would be appreciated
ps ,I hope this was not a bstock because when I opened the box the bag for the acceessoris was torn open, I paid for a new unit

I sincerely doubt you got a b-stock. It's more likely that the accessory bag got torn during an inspection.

How is the IR repeater connected to the 990? Is it an IR flasher or a connection to the rear IR input?

Trigger 2 has to be enabled for each input - have you done that?

I got the trigger to work, the ir is an x 10 unit ,it is not connected to the 990, that seems to be working fin e now, but what about the ctrls on the 990 itself, if you press them nothing happens

The input on the front panel button doesn't do anything unless you also use the navigation buttons to scroll through the inputs. The menu button brings up the on-screen menu, but you'll only see it if you have a TV on and connected to the composite, s-video, or component monitor output. Does any of that help?

first if it was b stock ,yes it should work like new, if it was really checked out when designating it a bstock but do not charge me reg price if the b stock is 100 bucks cheaper, but that is not my main concern.
Gonk ,I dont think I should have to be applying all this pressure on the buttons to activate them or to get a response from the unit

Hi evan,

Since the remote buttons are not pressure sensitive I doubt that the pressure you are exerting is actually doing anything but rather the fact that you are holding the button down for a long time is eventually getting the signal through. My guess is that the IR repeater stuff you are using is sending a constant IR signal that is interfering with the signal from the remote. Try disabling the IR repeater to see if it is the culprit.

I agree, evan, that you should not get b-stock - and I'm 99.99% sure you didn't (can't rule it out but very much doubt that you'd get one by accident).

I take it my previous post (about some front panel buttons only working in conjunction with other buttons) was not the issue. My front panel buttons click audibly when pushed enough to engage, and it's not all that much pressure. The haywire behavior does sound suspiciously like an odd IR system issue (like maybe the repeater and the original signal from the remote are both being received and the unit is getting confused). Can you cover the IR sensor so only the repeater's flasher has a shot at the front panel sensor?

Plasma TVs are known to cause interference and odd behavior with some IR systems... just a thought...

If I point my sensor anywhere near the screen, I get all LEDs flashing.
