Is it still worth buying the 1050 or should I wait for the 950

Well that's like saying should I buy these apples or what until the mangos go on sale.
It is not fair to compare a $499 av receiver to a $799 pre-amp that still needs an amp. Yes the 950 will do a lot more but it is almost twice as much without an amp. It depends on what you want to do and how much money you want to spend on this one part of your home theater. The 1050 is a great av receiver that will do just about everything you could ask it. No it doesn't have 7.1 but there isn't any movies that do either. No it wouldn't have as much power as 950/770 but you could add an amp at less cost later. I guess it comes down to want you want! Tell us and we will all give you our opinions.

That's true. We're not shy of sharing our opinions. We're nothing if not opinionated 'round these parts!

Well, if you want component video switching (which I do), or you need more than 3 digital inputs (which I do), or you want DPL II (which I do), then the choice is fairly obvious.

Of course, if you absolutely MUST HAVE some sort of setup going by the end of the week, then the choice is also fairly obvious. :-)

As another thought, I like the idea of being able to buy a very high quality amplifier and have that portion of my investment protected, for when and if I decide to upgrade the processor portion of my setup. Seeing as what's going on in the SACD and DVD/A worlds right now, I think it's a pretty high possibility I'll want to do that in 3-4 years.
