As many of you know lots of folks are getting Playstation 3s (PS3) as BluRay Disc (BD) players.

The PS3 will feature some of the upcoming advanced lossless audio formats on BDs soon, however the PS3 can only output these advanced audio formats through HDMI.

How long before Outlaw will offer a pre/pro with HDMI inputs so we can enjoy the next generation of surround sound formats ??

Thx !!

Check out this thread where Peter Tribeman of Outlaw responded to your question:
http://ubb.outlawaudio.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/ubb/get_topic/f/7/t/000278/p/1.html#000008

Short answer is "Yes" but it will be awhile.

Unfortunately, the development of HDMI has been less than graceful (my HDMI FAQ offers a little of the history), and as a result it has not been possible to even begin developing such a product until the last six months (at best - at worst, the necessary hardware may still not be finalized). As Peter Tribeman reported in this thread yesterday , it won't be real soon. My best guess has been that it'll be early 2008 at the soonest.

Newbie clarification on HMDI/component with PS3:
Am i correct in thinking that as of now, because most studios ARE NOT turning on the nasty token thing, that blue ray discs played through component cables would come thru at 1080I? (really not that much worse from what I've heard than full 1080P)?
i have an older htdv that lacks hmdi and dvi..

Gonk and Tamara, sorry for the subject evolution: I am glad I am not the only one who still has a perfectly working 1080i hdtv with only component video inputs. None of the reviews I have read about PS3, Blu-ray or HD-DVD players has ever reported on how HD movies actually look on a 1080i TV using the component video output. The reviewers are always playing with the latest 1080p display at the same time. It would seem there is still quite a large existing market of potential consumers of new players and HD/BD disks who are limited to 1080i component video. Has anyone ever seen an HD-DVD or Blu-ray player on a 1080i component video display?

This will sound like a foolish question, but how do I tell what kind of display I have? I read the Panasonic manual 3 times. Does it have something to do with the specifications area? Is it 480/768/1080i/1080p and what difference does this make?

The figures you mentioned are all resolutions. What Panasonic is this? If it were an EDTV (like the early plasmas), the native resolution will be 480p even though it can probably accept (and downscale) 720p and 1080i. A true HDTV (which is what I suspect you have) will accept both 720p and 1080i and if it's really new may also take 1080p, although it will take those resolutions and re-scale to the native resolution. That is where it gets a bit trickier - we need to find out what the native resolution is. The specs for the TV should include that. Typically, the best resolution setting will be the closest to the TV's native resolution.

gonk,

My model is the Panasonic TH-50PX6U -

http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/sto...01&displayTab=S

It shows that the native resolution is 1366 x 768. I hope that this helps.
