Remote Troubles

Hi,
Ok, I know this is bad, but, I can't get the remote to turn on the 990. If I manually turn on the 990, I can get the remote to turn it off, but I cannot get it to turn it on.
I've read the manual and understand the need to program the remote, with codes, but from what I can see, none are given for the 990 and so I'm assuming it should function with the 990, without having to program it. Am I mistaken or am I doing something wrong?
Help!
thanks,
John

There's a trick, and you're far from the first to get tripped by it. Any input command (Video1 through Video5, DVD, CD, Tape, Aux, AM/FM) also serves as a discrete on command that selects that input at the same time. The Power button on the remote is a discrete off command. It's great for writing macros - once you know how it works.

gonk,
thank YOU!!!
Yes, "tripped up" by it is the right expression. It's working fine, now.
Again, thanks,
John
