Balanced cables are advantageous if you have long runs to subwoofers and powered speakers in electrically noisy environments. As I understand it the very nature of the cable (multiple wires) and connections at the preamp and amp cancel out any interference. There is much debate over the real advantage of balanced cables in most home theater applications, however balanced equipment and cables have a loyal following. I don't recall the post here in the Saloon but there is an extensive previous thread on this topic.
