I moved about six months ago and found some old LP's I'd been dragging around for +- twenty five years. I'd like to listen to them, but do not have a turntable. Any and all recommendations (preferably less than $1,000) that would work well with my system would be appreciated.

I have the Pro-ject Debut III. It was $320 and I love it. Definitely a step up from the other tables I have had, and not too much money to just get started.

At that price point - the entry level for high-end turntable-cartridge combinations - there's almost an embarrassment of riches. Rega, Pro-ject, and Thorens are all good bets and I'm sure some of you can suggest others. If you don't have a reasonably high end dealer near you, try www.audioadvisor.com. Unfortunately my AR is long out of production. Note: Vibration proof mounting is CRITICAL if you want all the quality the equipment is capable of.

Very true about the vibration. I made a box, filled it with 75lbs sand and rested a 18"x18" marble tile on top and put the tt on that. HUGE improvent in sound and isolation from footsteps too. Very cheap diy project ($30 max).

I still use my Thorens(model?), many years old now but going strong. You can find them new and used. Try looking at Saturday Audio online, sometimes they have good turntable deals. Good luck. UMtiger

Ernie:
If you are interested in a free turntable. I have a Music Hall Turntable that I have not used in a couple of years. If you want I am willing to give it away to a good home.
Let me know
Tony
