I am using the 635 as a pre pro. My amp is the Parasound 1205A ( 5 channel)
I've been visiting these pages for some time and am very intrested in the 990.Within the next couple months I'll be upgrading from the 635.
My speakers are Monitor Audio gr-20's and RS 8's. A common complaint of these speakers is there brightness. The 635/Parasound combo seems to tame the brightness. Will throwing the 990 in the mix, replacing the 635,cause any increase in brightness( listener fatigue)or is this condition attributed to amplifiers only.
Thanks

I have not considered the 990 to be bright - it's been neutral for me, and even though some people consider Paradigms like mine to be bright I've not had any problems with listener fatigue.

Thanks,
On the 990 when playing SACD/DVD-A through the "direct inputs" does the signal bypass the bass management feature?
MY main focus is on music 1st, movies 2nd.I have read that although there are some pre-pros that sound better, there cost defies the returns.( at least for my pocket book)
Will going from 635 to the 990 be that noticable in music playback to warrant the upgrade?

The 990 will apply bass management to the 7.1 Direct input, actually. The 990 will be more likely to provide an improvement in music playback than it will in movie playback - it does both very well.

Bill...I drive Klipsch which many describe as bright. The power supply in H/K is very capable. I went from a H/K 7200 to the 990/7500 & QSC pro amp. The 990 is definately not as warm as H/K. I consider the 990 to be neutral, natural & "live". Adding the 990 is the best move i've made since moving to Klipsch.

Arky, if you had to grade the improvement sound wise by percentage, what would it be.( musical)
I do like the idea of bass management through the 990 when listening to SACD/DVD-A. This alone is swaying me towards the 990.

Man that is very subjective but I know i'd buy the 990 again. Musically, probably 80% better. The QSC pro amp I use is very musical & effortless at 425 watts with tons of headroom. Your Parasound amp is very good. I like having a separate unit dedicated to processing. I'm also one who believes processors play a larger role than amps concerning the sound. The 990 is a great performing unit & personally I feel I would have had to spend 3 to 5x as much to beat it.

You may know but i'll add; my 7200 was H/K's flagship unit a couple of yrs ago. I now use it in a 2nd system.

I'd have to say your 1 happy customer.5% would be enough to warrant the upgrade to me.
I have been researching for months a Pre Pro. The more I read, the more complexed it gets. The one costant, most ,no matter which pre pro they own, they respect Outlaw and what the 990 does for the price.Customer service being a major consideration for me, I feel I can't go wrong with the 990.Soon,I'll keep fingers crossed, I'll be on here asking questions about the set-up menu's etc.
Thanks

You know your right, it's hard to find negative comments concerning the 990. To be fair, remember I added the QSC at the same time, & that is a sweet amp.
Hope it works out for you.
