Twice today, I turned on the 990/7700 with my Directv Tivo system and received unintelligible, garbled sound from every possible combination of surround other than stereo, bypass and upsample. I tried turningthe 990 off and on again several times. Then I tried switching inputs from video 1, to DVD, to video 2 ete. Nothing worked. Then after about an hour, I got my sound back on all settings. What happened? Should I be concerned? Do I have a defective 990?

I have the same problem. Only happens occasionally when I accidentally hit a wrong button on the remote. I can't seem to recreate the problem on purpose so I'm not exactly sure why it happens. It can be fixed by unplugging the 990 or turning the main power on the rear off for 10 seconds or so, then firing it back up. I reported it to outlaw and per their recommendation loaded the latest firmware, but it still happens occasionally. I just live with it.
