Somewhere I'm completely missing the boat....someone please help. I made sure I made all the changes in the 990 prior to changing my connections and I still cannot get video out of the 990 using DVI. I'm beyond frustrated so don't be afraid to be brutal....I have tough skin.
Here are my connections:
- Projector to Directv box - HMDI to HDMI - Projector composite out to 990 Monitor In. - Directv box audio out - optical to the 990 optical 1. - DVD HDMI out to the 990 DVI-1 In. - DVD Audio out optical to optical 2 of the 990.
Watching TV works great. Music CD's works great. Opticals at work. Put in a DVD....get audio only.
Go ahead and be blunt......I'm right there; I know it.

Ahhhh....gotcha.....I knew it had to be something simple. I'm headed out to a xmas party but will definitely make the changes in the morning. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks once again Gonk..you're the man; even if this doesn't work. :-)

Gonk,
I have another question on the DVI, no sense raising another thread...as I'm sure it's been asked and answered.
If I use the component inputs of the 990, will it output video via the DVI connection? ie...xbox 360 via component to the 990, DVI from the 990 to an HDMI switcher, and then to the display...just trying to work a few things out.
Thanks

I'm not Gonk but the answer is no - the 990 doesn't convert analog video to digital or vice versa. All it ca do with the DVI connections is choose which DVI input to send to the DVI output.

Thanks psyprof. I didn't think it would, but I couldn't find the thread where I had originally read it.

Ok Gonk, after the changes here's where the system stands: 1. DVD Audio/Video - Great 2. HD Directv - No Audio/Video 3. Still have a slight hum coming from the sub. - I'm going to try some cable management this week so let me do a sanity check. Cable management to the ignorant means separate the power cables from interconnects....neatly.....right? Will tying up the cables cause any degradation? What's my next move? :-) Originally posted by gonk: The DirecTV box is using the projector's HDMI input, which is why you aren't getting video from the 990's DVI output. The DirecTV and the DVD both need to run their HDMI through the 990, and the DVI output of the 990 needs to be connected to the projector.

If you connected as Gonk suggested, I would check your video/audio input assignments via the 990's menu.
Your hum could be a ground loop, so you have some detective work ahead of you. If not already done, you can try plugging your gear so everything comes off the same breaker.
If none of the other speakers produce humm, I would also try swapping the subwoofer's cable to see if that's the culprit. Don't forget to unplug your sub when you do that (been there, done that).

Cable Mgmt - got it Directv a/v out - I'm connected as mentioned. I'm also connected optical out of the Directv to the 990. Made the changes in the 990 (DVI-1 In for DTV , DVI-2 In for DVD and DVI Out to projector) and still nothing. Clueless!! Originally posted by gonk: Basic cable management is exactly what you describe - keeping power cables away from interconnects and speaker cables (particularly on parallel runs; power and interconnect can cross at right angles and not give you problems). It's also not a bad idea to avoid bundling interconnects with speaker cables if you can avoid it. Tying cables up with string, zip ties, or velcro straps won't hurt them, assuming you aren't bundling interconnects and power cables of course.
So we've got audio and video working fine from the DVD, but we've lost audio and video from the DirecTV? I assume you've started using the 990's DVI switching, so that the DVD player has an HDMI-to-DVI cable and a coaxial or optical cable running to the 990 and a DVI cable is running to the projector? If so, you also need an HDMI-to-DVI cable and a coaxial or optical cable running from the DirecTV box to the 990, and you need to set up an input on the 990 to use that DVI input and digital audio input.
