I just got my 990 on Saturday and starting playing with it today. I've done a couple basic setup things but then remembered there was a software upgrade that came out at the beginning of the summer. Do the currently shipping units come with this preinstalled? Can I verify it if so?

I'm not sure if units shipping now have the latest firmware (version 3.11). You can check on your version number using the following procedure: Press "SELECT" and "INPUT" on the front panel at the same time while the unit is in standby will display the version number (but be careful because "SELECT" and "MENU" will reset the unit to factory defaults). The version number is displayed as "Version x.xx xx" with the first set of numbers ("x.xx") representing the firmware version (3.11 for the June 13 release, for example) and the second set of numbers (" xx") reflecting the build date of the particular 990 being updated. That second set of numbers has appeared most often as either "03" or "04". If you don't get "Version 3.11 xx" then you don't have the latest firmware installed.

I just recieved mine about 3 weeks ago and it didn't have the upgrade installed.

3.07 04... damn. Oh well, wish me luck. I'm about 50% when it comes to successfully downloading stuff from the web with this computer. Much better since ditching Norton utilities, but still have some failures.

Hmmm... Just did the install, however with a couple of hickups. I did manage to get to the point of getting the message "Program Success!". When I tried to complete the upgrade by pressing the Enter and Menu buttons, I did not get the SYSTEM RESET message, instead I got nothing. I'm kind of stuck. Waiting to hear back from Steve. Let me know if you have any ideas or have seen this before.

Been there myself - that's why I asked. And let me tell you, it's particularly disturbing when you do it at 11:30 at night and can't figure out why the silly thing won't come out of standby mode...
