I'm thinking about ditching my Philips Touchscreen remote for a hardbutton remote again (I prefer hardbuttons) but just not sure how well the Universal Remotes communicate with the 990. I know there was a small issue with the Harmonys, meaning, you had to do something within the program as far as delay timings between commands go, which most people have figured out, but just curious if anyone is using a Universal Brand remote and how well it communicates. Thanks in advance.

The Universal remotes work very well, and there are files already created (see my sig for the "Remote Files" link) that can get you started.

Gonk, any particular model I should be looking at, the 2 models that caught my interest are the MX-900 and the MX-950.

My experience is limited to the MX-500 and MX-700, which are the template for the MX-600, MX-800, and MX-850. We really like our MX-700. The 900 and 950 certainly look cool, too, and there's a nice details review of the 950 at Remote Central.

I have the MX-800 (for RF use) and have been happy with it. A cautionary note, though -- be sure to buy from someone who can ensure access to the MX Editor software (and the Live Update capability), since URC has taken the software off its open downloads in what I believe is a misguided attempt to limit sales of higher end remotes to installers.

Well, finally got my MX-950 up and running will all my new gear. I recently received my SMS-1 also. Still have to take some time to read the manual on the SMS-1 to get it set up correctly but so far I really like this peice of gear. I've updated my pics on the Polk forum so you guys check them out and let me know what you think, here is the link.

Nice looking setup, grimster, as always. Has the MX-950 worked out pretty well for you?

Absolutely love this remote. Took me a little getting used to the program but once I figured it out, it was down hill from there. I can't beleive I went this long without a hard button remote. Any one interested in a Philips TSU7000 remote, e-mail me.
