I don't read much on the other parts of the forum, so I thought I would post this here.
I was wondering if I could record HD programming on a DVD-R disc, or does this require a special disc?
I have an HD DVR that I am saving some programming on and I would like to transfer some to a disc to free up space on the DVR.
HELP!! laugh

Thanks for your help,

Lonster

You can't record HD onto DVD-R, because the DVD format's resolution is only 480i. The only way to get data off an HD DVR while preserving the HD resolution is to transfer to a computer hard drive, and you'll still need some way to handle viewing it (probably by transferring it back onto the HD DVR).

Thanks Gonk.
Is there such thing as a HD DVD burner for computers? Or is this what the whole BlueRay thing is all about?
Thanks for taking the time,
Lonster

Nope. I see it's still too new. I'll have to look into an external hardrive to store the HD media and just move them back and forth as neede.
Thanks for the help,
Lonster

There are Blu-ray recorders on the market, but they may only be available in Japan still. I don't recall seeing HD-DVD recorder drives yet, although the format supports it. Media for either will be expensive for the forseeable future and software support is still not there yet. I think a hard drive is your best bet at this point.
