Greetings,

Just setting up a 990 Prepro. Everything seems great, but DVD function. Running v3.11 firmware.

Having trouble getting video from new DVD (Oppo 971) player ... which duplicates problen with older Sony DVD player. New component cable "ohms out" OK, and works as a composite + 2-Ch audio connection.

1. Question. During Setup, if a valid video connection is temporarily selected in one of the SETUP menus, should the video from a running DVD player immediately appear along with the on-screen display?

2. I.ve tried running the component cables through both Video 1, & Video 2, inputs with the same negative results. Of course permutating through all the possible component inputs after each change of cable connectors. It acts like a dead video amp after the video switch. Any comments?

Called Outlaw about 4:30 PM EDT, but they had already pulled the plug for the day.

Regards to all,

Frank

1. If the source video is a component video input, then you will not see anything but a black screen with the menu overlaid until you exit the menu. The 990 overlays the menu onto the source video for composite and s-video sources, but it replaces the signal from component video sources with a blank screen.

2. Do any other sources display over the component video monitor output? That'd help troubleshoot the issue (determine if the video switching is working and if your display accepts 480i component video).

Thanks again Gonk,

It was a loose NUT on the remote.

All is now well, except my wife wants a nice big TV/display, and since we don't have DVI or even Component drive to our present TV, I guess I'll just have to be a good guy and get her a fancy big'n.

By the way, after work, Scott called from his house, and reminded me that the S-Video is Inop with Component video function. Duh, now I remember seeing it in the manual.

I'm truly impressed by Outlaw' (Scott's) dedication & service. What a refreshing experience.

Best regards to you, & Scott, and all the other helpful outlaws who ride these trails.

Frank

Outlaw's good about providing useful manuals, but video switching's one of those things that messes with people's minds - you are far from the first to get tripped up by that. Kudos to Scott for the save on that one.

The 971's a great player, but it's best video tricks are reserved for its DVI output. A good husband would track down a new HDTV (complete with the new-standard DVI/HDMI input) and turn the 971 loose. smile
