I have a CD changer hooked up to my 990 via one of the optical hook ups. It will not let me change the surround from stereo to 7channel to utilize all of my speakers, why? It says in the manual that I should be able to press the surround button on the face or the 990 to access the control but that doesn't even work. I have the OSD toggled "on."

You have to have five speakers set up to use 5 Stereo, and you have to have all seven going to get 7 Stereo. Assuming that's done, you should be able to use the Stereo button to scroll through modes to get to 5 Stereo or 7 Stereo as long as the input signal is PCM stereo or analog. Does any of that help?

If you're pressing the front panel button, you must also use the navigation buttons to scroll through options.

Are you hitting the Stereo button located to the right of the volume up button on the remote?

No, I am using the buttons on the face of the 990. I can toggle the arrow down to the SURR MODE but I can not change from stereo.

I tried using the remote and I can change it using the remote but I can't change it using the controls on the front of the unit.

As long as the remote's working, we at least don't appear to have a major problem with the unit. I just double-checked my memory and using a PCM input (Roku SoundBridge) I was able to change surround modes by pressing the SURR MODE button and using the up and down navigation arrows to scroll through various options. I only had a couple seconds to start scrolling, though, before it quit showing the surround mode.
