Hi,

I have been having allot of trouble with the 990 remote. The Power button on the remote never works. It use to power OFF the 990 but it never powered it on. Also the Video 1, 2, 3, 4 buttons don't work. Video 5 works though and the DVD, Aux, Tape, Phono works fine too. The Volume does not work either, it did use to work.

I can't change the DTS or Dolby mode in the DVD input settings. its stuck on PCM and Upsample. The other inputs I can change to any sound mode.

Is there a special mode the 990 needs to be in in order for it to work?

Thanks
Ruben

The power button on the 990 serves to turn the 990 off only - it is a discrete off command (something that became standard for Outlaw on the 950 due to user requests for the feature because it makes remote macros much easier). All of the input commands (Video1 through 5, DVD, Aux, Tape, Phono, CD, and tuner) will also turn the 990 on if it isn't on already. The input commands will only work when you've pressed the "TNR" button at the top of the remote first, since that tells the remote to operate the 990. The volume and mute controls may only work for you when you have pressed "TNR" first, but that can be changed using the "punch through" settings on the remote (described on page 42 of the manual) to tell the remote to assign the "TNR" volume control to the other remote devices. I highly recommend volume punch through. And if even that doesn't allow the 990's volume control to work (if the unit is effectively muted), make sure you haven't changed to headphone mode. In headphone mode, the large red symbol on the right side of the display (it looks like a speaker symbol) is turned off and the pre-amp outputs are shut down at the same time the headphone jack is enabled. You can switch between the two modes by holding down the mute button for several seconds until the red speaker symbol reappears.

The DTS and Dolby buttons will only work if there is a DTS or a Dolby signal presently playing on the active source. For example, the DTS button won't do anything if you are playing a Dolby Digital source, and it will only offer NEO:6 as an option if you are playing a PCM stereo or analog stereo source. If there is no disc playing, neither will do anything at all. If this problem is only affecting your DVD input, make sure your DVD player's setup menu is correctly set up (audio output should be set to bitstream, not PCM).

Does any of that help you out?

Thank you Very much. The "TNR" button fixed my problems. The red speaker icon was on and I still had audio coming through my speakers.

Does "TNR" stand for Tuner?

Thanks Again
Ruben

Just wondering....I have have noticed there are no codes for Mitsubishi TVs. Are these units uncompatable with the 990 remote?

My old Model 1050 remote controlled my 27" Mitsubishi TV, so I suspect that the UEI database includes at least some Mitsubishi codes. This page offers four codes for Mitsubishi TV's: 0150, 0019, 0093, and 0178. I'd recommend trying those, as some or all of them should be in the 990 remote's database. I'd also try 0030 (listed under "MGA" in the Outlaw manual along with three of the above Mitsu codes).
