My menu has quit coming up on screen. I have it connected to my tv with a composite cable. I have tried changing cables, even connecting it to another tv and nothing. I have not trid the s-video connection. Pressing the remote button or the front panel gets me nothing. Any suggestions? The menu worked fine when I first set my system up. I think I have a problem with the 990.

Ok, I have figured out that I have a component connection rather than a composite connection. I am going to get a composite cable tomorrow. Why would it not work with a component cable now, when that is how I set it up in the first place? Confusing.

composite uses 1 cable. component uses three cables. but they all look the same.. all are RCA connectors.

if you use one of those in one of the component hook ups, thinking you were connecting the composite. you would not get a picture.

are you getting a picture, but no on screen menu?

Did you accidently press the wrong button on the 990 remote? so instead of the remote being in TNR it's in some other mode? and not sending the command to the 990 pre?
That's gotten me a few times.

I just hooked up an S-video cable and still get no menu. I think I have a problem with the 990. I have also tried the small tv hookup to no avail.

And you're using both the "MENU" button on the front panel and the "MENU" button on the remote (the one above the channel up button, not the one near the navigation keys) after pressing "TNR"? If you've made sure you're doing that and you're still not getting the on-screen menu, I'd recommend giving Outlaw a call.
