I can only adjust the menu on my Outlaw990 via input 4 on my Sony TV, but I have the DVD player hooked through the only component in which happens to be input 5....so I have to go to a blank screen to adjust audio to go back to input 5 to view the DVD...any suggestions?

So your 990 is connected to the TV via S-video or composite to input 4 on the TV, and your DVD player is connected directly to the TV via component to input 5?

If so...

Why not just connect your DVD player to one of the component inputs on the 990 and then connect the component out on the 990 to input 5 on the TV?

This is how I have my DVD player connected, and I get OSD and the DVD video on the same input.

Since the DVD player is bypassing the 990, you currently can't get video from the 990 on that input. As stickpony suggests, routing the video from your DVD player through the 990 will allow you to leave your TV in a single input (video5, presumably) and have access to the 990's menu at that TV input.

One thing to note, however: the 990 will display the OSD menu on top of component video inputs, but it will only generate the on-screen "pop-ups" (volume changes, input changes, surround mode changes) with composite or s-video inputs. If by "adjust audio" you mean that you can't see the 990's front panel and are trying to get access to those pop-ups, you may want to retain the (presumably s-video or composite) connection to your TV's input 4 and perhaps use picture-in-picture to see some of that information.

Wow, thanks for all the input! Looks like I need to buy an additional set of component cables to route my DVD through the 990 then into the TV.

Certainly appreciate the help!
