I received my 990 a few days ago. How do I know if the latest software is already loaded o the new unit?
As a precaution I was attempting to load the latest update but I keep getting the "device restart" error. If there is a away to check the unit to see if the latest software is on it please let me know so I don't have to mess with this!

ok, found this:
As described below, firmware version 3.11 was released on June 13 and addressed a single issue (the subwoofer trim bug reported a week or so after version 3.10 was released). With this firmware update, the subwoofer trim behaves properly. Around the same time this firmware update was released, Outlaw provided a bit of clarification on the version numbers displayed by different Model 990's. (Pressing "SELECT" and "INPUT" on the front panel at the same time while the unit is in standby displays the version number, but be careful because "SELECT" and "MENU" will reset the unit to factory defaults.) The version number is displayed as "Version x.xx xx" with the first set of numbers ("x.xx") representing the firmware version (3.10 for the May 21 release, for example) and the second set of numbers (" xx") reflecting the build date of the particular 990 being updated. That second set of numbers has appeared most often as either "03" or "04".

The only problem...there is no "select" button
on the front panel!!

ok. I have 3.07 04 which I take it is a few versions old. Can I do one update to get it caught up or do I have to do the updates in order?

Well I don't know if it's any help...
but on my 1070 I went from a september 05 firmware...to a may 06 firmware without doing any other in between (2 or 3 other I think)
and so far so good...
maybe someone else can confirm for you...

You should only need to install one update, with or without the bass trim bug fix.

I have done some searching and apparently lots of people have had difficulty in getting the updates to "take."
I guess I will just have to keep trying.

You can do one update (the latest patch) and get caught up - the firmware updates are not cumulative. The 3.07 version is the original production firmware, and 3.11 is the latest.

I thought the updates were cumulative?

Each update stands alone - it completely replaces prior updates and contains all the code that the 990 needs. I may have screwed up the wording in my earlier post.
