I was moving the lawn this morning and a thought occurred to me about the pre/pro. I originally wanted to purchase the Outlaw 7700 amp and Outlaw 990 Pre/Pro for my tv/dvd video (95%) and music audio (5%). The thought that occurred to me was I could get the Denon 3805 as a pre/pro and match it with the Outlaw 7700 amp. Since the HDMI issue is far from being resolved I could wire my DVD HDMI straight through to my HDTV connection and later down the road purchase a Pre/Pro with HDMI 3.1.
My question is... as a processor for DVD/TV (audio) is the Denon 3805 as strong as the Outlaw 990? Will I See a night and day difference? Thanks for your feedback!

The 3805 is a pretty solid receiver, but the impression I've gotten from folks who have used it as well as the 990 (such as this post and this post in particular) is that the 990 will give you better sound quality.

I wasn't all that happy with the 3805, in biamping mode I couldn't get rid of some hum, no matter what I tried.
Cinema sound was fine, but music (especially stereo) was a bit weak in the knees for the mids, and slightly strident in the treble.
So I sold it for my current SR9600 Marantz, sounding much more musical and warm (even slightly too warm when coupled to the DV9600 player) and also more "engulfing" when it came to movie sound.
It also taught me not to value video switching too much, since the D. and the M. both showed a slightly veiled pic with different saturation when fed with hdmi.
I reckon, when you can afford a 990/1770 you can also afford a good scaler, this always give you more tweaks than any receiver.
I'm very happy with my DVDO HD+, it made possible to use 576p (PAL) on my rather NTSC-leaning Panny plasma DVI input board.

Now the M. has to go too because it still lacked the awesome power my previous Rotel RMB1095 final amp exhibited.
I noted over the years that massive power does a lot for the sound quality, especially the low bass, and for dynamics too: even the M. can sometimes sound slightly compressed when playing a SACD or DVD-Audio (fortunately the SACD isn't as defunct in Europe yet as it is in the USA, we even saw many new classical cds my fringe companies).
Many people declared me nuts buying the 1077 for my 4 x 4 m listening space, but I stick to what my old ears told me!

In my experience, there is NO comparison!! Sorry I am bashing Denon but I have wasted enough money on them. After having the Denon 2802, 3803 and the 3805 (also as a pre/pro) and now the 990, I will never look back at another Denon, ever!
I am not really sure why Denon always gets such rave reviews. Most HT enthusiasts love them for some reason. I was never that impressed with the sound of them plus the fact of their crappy customer service along with their poorly written manuals.
I was already considering replacing the 3805 with a yammie or marantz last year when someone in the S&V forum recommended the 900 and since I had the amps I went for it and could not be more satisfied.
Just my .02 cents. Sorry agian for bashing Denon, but thats just been my experience.

I went from a Denon AVR 2805 to the Outlaw 990, powering an Adcom GFA-5503 in the front and GFA-2535 for the rears. No comparison, the outlaw blows the receiver out of the water. That and I don't like the fact that there are onboard amps being used to drive nothing on the receiver, where the outlaw is a dedicated preamp processor.

I have a 3805 bi-amped with an H/K PM-660 int amp driving my PSB Gold i speakers.
The PSB's are a difficult to drive 6 omh speaker and what I have does'nt seem to be enough.
I was looking at a bigger Denon, NAD 773, even a Arcam & Bryston combo (very expensive).
Then today I found out about Outlaw and it looks like my search is over.
I'm thinking the 990 & 7500 will be just what I'm looking and for a lot less $ than I thought.

Now I just need to upgrade my dvd player without breaking the bank account.....any recomendations ?

I think you'll be extremely pleased with the 990 and 7500 combo.

Some of the common recommendations for a good DVD player without too much cost are the two OPPO Digital players - at $150 or $200, they are very hard to beat. Denon's players also have a solid reputation, although the entry-level players sacrifice a lot to reach that lower price point (I'd tend to recommend starting at the DVD-1930 if you're seriously considering a Denon player).

I have a LG LDA 531 dvd and it works well but I want better audio performance and video.
I have been looking at the Denon 2910 & 2930 but now I won't need the Denon link and I was wondering if there are others out there that perform as well for less money ?

Audio performance on DVD's is going to be mostly the responsibility of the receiver (or now the processor, if you pick up the 990). The analog audio section of the DVD player only really matters if you are using DVD-Audio and SACD. The Denon 29x0's are a solid choice if you're really serious about both formats, but with the catalogs for both largely dead in the water there are plenty of folks with universal players these days who aren't even bothering to hook up the multichannel analog outputs. What TV do you have currently?

I'm using a 7 yr old samsung 32" tv, it's best input is s-video.
I will be upgrading in the next year, not sure what it will be yet but definately a HD widesreen.
