Your current TV is such that the difference between good DVD players is going to be pretty insignificant. The Oppo 970HD is probably a good candidate for only $150: solid basic performance and an HDMI output once you move to an HDTV. I'd only suggest moving to something like the Denon 29x0's if you are serious about DVD-Audio and SACD (the Oppo 970 supports both, but the extra $500 or $700 that you'd pay for the 2910 or 2930 will get you an analog section with more expensive DACs).

I got my Gold i's last Dec and love them.
My final choice was between the Paradigm Studio 100's and the PSB Gold i's, I went with the Gold i's because of their superior low end....both have excellent mid & high sound qaulity.
But, you need a lot of very good high current power to drive them.
I've heard that to really make the Gold i's perform you need 300 - 600 watts per speaker and that's why I'm here.
Many who own them and want even better sound upgrade their amplifiers, not the speakers.....there that good.
PSB was planning on replacing the Gold i's earlier this year but it appears there still available, I think PSB is having a tough time improving on them in that price range.
